We are facing an epidemic of an extent that has never been seen, especially by the distribution
of the cases in the area. There have been cases in Nzérékoré, Macenta, Kissidougou,
Guéckédou and now in Conakry.
Other epidemics in the past have been much more concentrated than the one we are currently
confronted with; it makes our work much more difficult.
We are facing the most aggressive strain of Ebola, called "Zaire" strain.
This is a strain that kills more than 9 people out of 10.
There is no treatment. There is no drug that specifically kills the virus.
We aim at making infected people stronger, we ensure that their body is not dehydrated,
so they are able to produce antibodies that will clean up the virus from their body.
