My hopes and dreams since even beginning the partnership have changed, because I think I began in the partnership not really knowing what I wanted to do as a teacher.
Each semester I've gained more knowledge about what I want my classroom to be and the kind of teacher I want to be based on the cooperating teachers in Marlborough.
Even my peers in the classroom, the other Methods students that we're with have kind of shaped the kind of teacher I want to become one day.
So my hopes and dreams have changed from being just a general educator to being more interested in special education.
I think they're going to continue to change as we go through Methods Two and student teaching.
--Walk around the circle. --Walk around the circle?
Everyone over here needs to take a step in.
Morning meeting is different in every classroom, so it changes. In the first grade it's the same thing every morning.
We go a greeting chosen by a student. Then we do a message that we write.
Then we have to do calendar and they do movement after.
Calendar. Margaret, are you ready?
Working with one student in particular when she was doing message she was struggling. The class was kind of distracting her.
I got to her level and I just talked her through it and we got through message pretty quickie because I think she needed that attention and that one-on-one time.
Alright first grade. We're going to do a little bit of movement before we move on. We're going to vote.
--We're going to do either four corners or yoga. --Four corners. --Think about it. We'll do a vote.
By a raise of hands. I don't want to hear any voices of we won't do anything. Okay?
Voices off while we vote. Hands raised for yoga. Hands raised for four corners.
--Four corners wins. --We need to remember all our rules. Okay? No running.
The morning that I did morning meeting completely we had a pretty good message, we did calendar pretty well. I felt good about it. And then we went to movement
and played four corners and it got really out of hand. So I took the initiative to have a conversation with the students
about how their behavior was and I didn't ever think I could do that a semester ago.
So, it's a new experience but it kind of puts you in that position. And I felt like I was a teacher in that time. I hadn't felt like that before.
First grade, come on and sit back down in morning meeting.
Unfortunately we had to end that game early because we weren't being safe in the classroom. We weren't being responsible.
The reason why we have an activity is so that you can get up and move around to get your body and your mind ready for learning.
So, we're not going to finish that game. Because you'll have a chance at some other point to prove us wrong but as of now we don't know that you can play this game.
--Does everyone understand? --Yes. --We'll try it again another day and we'll go over the rules.
