-Hey, if you want.
I'm Josh, and I have a massive spot on my face.
I have to take my glasses off because I
can't stop the reflection out in them,
and it's doing my head in.
Today I'm going to talk about work experience,
and if you want to be in a certain career,
then just go in for it.
Instead of saying, oh, I want to do, just do it.
What's stopping you?
Especially with the internet nowadays, how it is,
everything is a click away, really.
So you can usually find contact [INAUDIBLE]
somewhere, a business that you could go into experience with.
You know, just people.
You can let them know that you're available to help out,
and you can send them a CV, and you show your passion.
Like, I'm so passionate about this.
Just give me a chance.
At least one of those places is going to say, you know what?
This person's got their screwed on.
We're going to give them a go.
Why wait for someone else to tell you to do something,
or why wait 'til later when you can just start doing stuff now?
And if you start doing that, then people
are going to realize that you took the initiative
and are doing it yourself.
Now, I understand that isn't the same for all careers.
Obviously if you want to be a doctor,
if you want to be a surgeon, you can't just email a hospital
and say, hello, I'd like to operate on a patient.
I know it doesn't work like that,
but you could always at least get yourself into that subject
matter Like, you can read books.
There's like, niche magazines.
If you want to be a tattoo artist,
there's tattoo magazines.
Like, draw, or-- I'll probably get [INAUDIBLE]
out for saying this, but get a tattoo machine.
Just tattoo yourself.
I don't know.
All I'm trying to say is it isn't impossible.
And if you think, I don't even know
where to look for work experience
placement, opportunities, there's websites
that, you know, all they do is list work experience
jobs for different careers.
For example, gothinkbig.co.uk, they
offer work experience placements and opportunities.
You can get work experience in the media, in hair and beauty,
in retail, catering.
They've got a listing of all these different work experience
placements, and you just need to log in, sign up, and send off
your application on the internet.
And hopefully you're the lucky one, and you'll get yours in.
Another good thing as well is say
someone was doing a talk somewhere,
and it was about the industry that you want to go into.
Then just go to it.
You don't know what you might learn,
you don't know what you might pick up.
Make notes.
And the same for when you go on your work experience placement.
Take a pen and a pad of paper and just make notes.
You know, make a good impression on every person you meet.
So all I'm saying is things aren't impossible.
If you really go out and look, you can find something.
And instead of thinking, oh, I want to be this in the future,
well, make a start now.
I'm not claiming to be an expert.
I'm still a student.
These are just the things that I've picked up along the way
from booking work experiences, getting
in touch with companies.
Being turned down.
This is an entry into GoThinkBig's vlogger
competition.
If I get into the top five, I'd really appreciate your vote.
I hope you found this useful or enjoyable.
Thanks for watching.
I'll see you another time.
Bye.
