This video introduces the new Content Editor
in Blackboard Learn 9.1.
At the end of this video presentation, you will be able to:
Identify the new content editor in a Blackboard course,
view the content editor in simple mode and advanced mode,
and identify the insert file and insert link icons
in order to add attachments or hyperlinks
to text composed in the content editor.
The content editor appears in most places
that you would type or format text in Blackboard.
As examples, you'd find the content editor
in communication tools, such as the Discussion Board, Journals,
Messages, and depending on your role, Announcements.
You'd also find the content editor with Assignments, and Tests,
and in other areas of Blackboard, depending on your role.
I've logged in to a Blackboard course
in order to demonstrate the content editor.
So right now, I'm creating a thread in a course discussion forum,
and if I scroll down, we can take a look at the content editor, right here.
Only one row of icons is currently displayed
at the top of the content editor,
which means that we're viewing it in simple mode,
so only the most commonly used icons are displayed.
However, in order to expand all available icons,
we can click on the set of double arrows at the top right corner,
and now three rows are displayed.
Now we're viewing the content editor in advanced mode.
Many of the features that were available
in the previous text editor in Blackboard
are available in this updated content editor,
though the icon might have changed.
So for example, if you wanted to insert a file attachment
directly within the body of your text,
you would click on the paperclip icon in the bottom row of options,
and then you could select Browse My Computer,
or Browse Content Collection to locate that file,
depending on where it's saved,
and once you've located it, you would select Submit.
If you wanted to include a hyperlink to a specific website, for example,
you would begin by typing text...
and then you would highlight the text,
and in the middle of the content editor, there's an Insert or Edit Link icon.
Though typically, you would copy and paste the URL from a site –
I'm going to right-click and paste a link
that I've already copied to my clipboard –
and you'll select Insert.
And now this text has become a hyperlink.
You can also include attachments below the content editor.
So right here, in part three, Attachments,
we have Browse My Computer and Browse Content Collection buttons.
If you're interested in adding YouTube videos,
SlideShare presentations, or Flickr photos,
you can do that by clicking on the Mashups button.
Blackboard has introduced a new feature called Video Everywhere,
and that allows you to record directly from your webcam.
You do need a YouTube account in order to use that feature.
Also, a new Map Editor has been introduced.
If you're unsure about any of the icons that you see in the content editor,
you can click on the "i" near the top right corner,
in order to access a Help pop-up window.
That concludes this quick introduction to the Blackboard content editor.
