That's good! That's good!
Shall we ask this young man too?
What country are you from?
Japan
So who thinks he is Japanese?
Only about half!
So I don't look Japanese... it's my dark tan!
Our guest from America has something to share with us
So please be quiet and listen carefully.
My name is Jeff
Jeff Chan?
No, it's Jeff SAN
Can you say Jeff?
Actually my name is really long
Jeffrey Mike Jousan
Jeff is easier right?
So call me Jeff
So let me explain why we are here today
I have a friend who lives in Pennsylvania
You can't walk there from here
You can go by boat or... how can you get there?
An Airplane!!
So how long do you think it takes by plane?
One hour
A little longer
A little longer
Two hours!
Even farther away
Five!! Nine!! One Hundred!!
You know the earth right?
Is there a ball?
Pennsylvania is on the other side of the world
Take my picture
Farther than Hokkaido, farther than China
It takes 15 hours by airplane
Fifteen hours!!
He said it takes 15 hours
So you can get 2 nights sleep on the plane
Very far away
So, my friend from Pennsylvania's daughter
Is in the third grade
So when she heard about the Earthquake and Tsunami
She decided that she wanted to make origami cranes
And she wanted to send them to kids in Japan
But she didn't know how to make cranes
So she went to school and found some 5th graders
I can make cranes!
You can?! Can everybody make cranes?
Cool
Who knows how?
Only a few know how
So if you know how to make them, teach your friends too
Promise?
So the 5th graders taught the 3rd graders
and the kindergarteners how to make cranes
So how many do you think they made?
Four? Ten?
More!
One hundred?! MORE!!
One Thousand
Didn't make it to 1,000!
Six Hundred and Forty
So they came to my house in a BIG box
I'm from Tsukuba in Ibaraki
So we drove the cranes up here from Tsukuba
So I'd like to show them to you
Now there is something interesting about these cranes
You know Origami paper right?
Is it thick?
Smooth?... Thin?
It's thin
So there isn't much thin origami paper in the USA
So they used regular paper to make the cranes
Awesome!!
The kids worked really hard to make these
Now this is interesting too
The Kindergarteners.... oh wait you need more
Sorry about that
They're cool aren't they
Really big cranes
It's flying
Here are some colorful ones
There aren't a lot of these but let me explain
These are cranes made by kindergarteners
It's not folded like origami
It's made with two pieces of paper like a paper airplane
There aren't a lot of them so pass them around
It's a cool way to make cranes
Kindergarteners made these
Pass them around, there aren't that many
Awesome!
