Welcome to Ask Andy! I can't say I'm a star yet...but we're still waiting on the
report from
the Mars Rover.
Kendra B asks, how do you increase interaction with customers on social media?
You can't go into social media thinking it's going to be the Field of Dreams. It's
not if you build it, they will come. If you want to have a catch with Ray Liotta, you're
going to have to tweet at him to get his attention.
It's important to join in on the conversation going on about your products and industry.
Did someone you follow post an article you enjoyed? Send them a message to let them know
and add or emphasize a point for good measure. For example: Hey, Mars Curiosity! Can you
take my little brother with you next time, he's been getting on my nerves!
One way to monitor the conversation is with search phrases and hashtags. Either will produce
a feed full of the tweets you should be engaging with. Drop in and offer your two cents. Be
informative and entertaining and you won't have to hope for the best.
Sometimes it's okay to bribe your followers to engage with you. The carrot on a stick,
if you will. You can hold giveaways for anybody who retweets or shares a blog post, infographic
or video or even for everyone who uses a specific hashtag. Make sure it's content worthy of
sharing and a prize your social media followers will jump at the opportunity to get their
hands on.
Ask questions and always respond to your followers. Be informative and entertaining and you'll
see your interaction rise higher than stock in Apple.
