Inside Leatherneck Softball with #8 Lia Romeo
Okay, I'm Lia Romeo. I'm a sophomore and
I'm a catcher/first baseman.
What is your favorite on the field memory so far this season?
I think it's when Monica started really hitting
all those home runs and really doing
well. Especially batting in front of her.
She just kept me really relaxed on the field.
So I would say just batting behind Monica and
watching her develop this year.
What do you hope to accomplish individually in the remainder of the season?
I hope that I can be a more consistent hitter
throughout the rest of the season verses being
super streaky. I know that when there are runners
on base I tend to get a little anxious.
So I hope that I can just calm down a little bit
more and come through in the clutch more.
This year you have increased your power numbers. How has your approach changed?
I would say my approach from last year is a lot
different. Last year I was just thinking
of more of a contact hitter, and this year working
with Kevin and him really taking the time to help
me would be the change. I've just changed how I'm
thinking in the box. So now, I am thinking
more of a power hitter verses just for contact.
What is the best part of being a member of the Leatherneck softball family?
Wow, you have 18 permanent friends. You come here
and they're your friends. They're here for you.
So the fact that it truly is a family.
When we go to away games, we usually have more
fans there from having our parents than they
have of their own. So the fact that it
really is a family.
Who is your biggest fan?
My parents are my biggest fans, both my
mom and my dad. They've always been at
every game. Last year, I don't think they missed
a single one. This year, my mom had shoulder
surgery so they missed a couple, but
my parents are definitely my biggest fans.
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
I would say in high school I did a lot.
I always had to put everything on my left foot
first or like my left shin guard. But as
I've gotten older, those have kind of just
gone away. So not really anymore.
I still do put my left spike on first though
so maybe.
What is your walk up song and why did you choose it?
My walk up song is Radioactive by Imagine Dragons.
I just think its a really cool song.
Last year I just picked really funny songs that kept
me loose at the plate, and this year I was like
alright this will be cool. This will set the tone.
I don't know, just thought it was fun.
What is your favorite thing to do off the field?
I really like spending time with my family off
the field. Being at school, its not as easy
to do that, but at home I just like being around
my family a lot and being with my friends.
What is the best part of team road trips?
Oh the practical jokes for sure. I think
Karissa is the brunt of most of the practical
jokes, but I just think they're so funny.
Taking Karissa's uniform at ISU was hysterical.
Mostly just the freshmen. Yeah pranking them.
What is your favorite food to cook or eat?
Well I live in the dorms so we don't get to do a lot
of cooking, but to eat. I'm not really a picky eater, but
I could probably live off chicken nuggets,
french fries and quesadillas. So I have the
appetite of a two-year old pretty much.
What is your message to the team regarding the rest of the season?
I would say we just need to go out
and try and finish as hard as we can.
We've had a really rough, shakey season.
Definitely some highs and definitely some lows.
But just finish out strong would be the
message I guess.
There is only ONE... Leatherneck Softball.
