Having information about research gives you the power to decide if and how you
want to be involved.
Registering with Research Match is an easy way to get information about
research studies
that are looking for volunteers.
Registering does not commit you to volunteering for any particular study.
It just creates a connection
so you can hear more about studies for which you might be eligible.
If you have access to the internet, the first step is to visit participate.ucsd.edu
participate.ucsd.edu on the web.
There you will find that link to the Research Match website, as well as links
to other sites information about other research studies.
Clicking on the Research Match link will take you to the Research Match
website.
Once you're ready, find and click the "Register Now" button.
On this page, you will see the four steps you can follow to register.
You will be asked whether you are registering yourself or someone else,
your age, and how you learned about Research Match.
Once you click the "next" button,
you'll be asked to read and accept the volunteer agreement.
The volunteer agreement describes the Research Match website and how it is used.
You will have the option to print this document so that you can keep a copy.
Registration takes about five to ten minutes.
You will be asjed to provide some demographic information about yourself such as your
age and sex,
health information such as your medical conditions and medications,
and contact information such as your email address.
The website has a built-in features to make entering your health information easy.
The site is protected so your privacy and health information are secure.
Once you've finished entering your information, you logoff and let the program
do the work. Research Match will send you a short description of a study you may be
eligible for by email. This email will ask you if you want to learn more. If you
click yes, then Research Match will release your contact information on to the
researcher, who
will get in touch with you.
If you click no,
Research Match will notify the researcher that you're not interested and
your contact information will remain private.
Whether or not you decide to participate in the study, you will remain active on Research Match
until you deactivate your account,
so you will continue to be matched to other studies in the future.
If you keep your contact information and health status up-to-date we will be sure to
get the matches that are most useful to you.
