Following the implementation of the new Hitachi system we now have all Columbus Control Centre
sub-systems available again but this time we have a flexible solution and now we have
plenty of memory space available until the end of the mission. As well as the technical
benefits the new solution offers us we have been very impressed about the commitment and
round the clock service which Hitachi Data Systems and ASSISTRA offer to us.
As you might know any updates or service maintenance has to be done in the very short times the
ISS is scheduled to be out of service. The system runs perfectly now and the number of
outtages is virtually zero. That means that the error related tasks have reduced massively
and that leaves us a lot more time for concentrating on the space flight itself. So for us at DLR
and all the related teams it was a real success story.
The DLR project ends in 2020 and we are doing maintenance and support until this time together
with Hitachi Data Systems. In human space flights everything is a very long decision
process because safety and security is one of the biggest aspects. Getting quick decisions,
quick changes is very unlikely and we are happy to cover this project together with
Hitachi Data Systems. This project was very helpful for us as ASSISTRA because we get
so much information so much experience in covering a highly secure project and this
will help us quite a lot in future projects in this space business and other customer
environments as well.
Hello my name is Dennis Frank and I am Sales Director at Hitachi Data Systems in Germany.
The DLR project has been high profile and very exciting to work on. Our team has been
proud to be associated with DLR and to play our part in the success of the Columbus Module
on the International Space Station Operation. We understand its long term importance to
science, military and private enterprise and also to our next generation. The future of
aerospace is marked by the changes and visions of human space flight. New projects are emerging
that will require significant demands in storage capacity either due to increased communication
requirements or the need to process such a growing volume of valuable data. Hitachi Data
Systems will be there to help.
Data drives our world and by 2020 data is predicted to grow by 42 times the 2009 levels.
This will mean that efficiencies in data management and storage will have to be made. Data is
now a business' most variable and strategic asset. Here at Hitachi Data Systems we believe
we are uniquely placed to help companies and organisations to turn data into insight and
innovation. Our experience on the DLR project is just one example of how we can supply a
valuable contribution and make a difference.
