They say time is like a winding river
and our experiences are soaked in the sodden logs that wash ashore.
There's something about people who live on the river.
They're proud, hard-working people whose heritage
is as enduring and resolute as the waters.
Never has this been more true than right here
in New Richmond on the Ohio -- a community with a vibrant
and important history. Our ancestors helped chart the navigational waters
of this river.
They built a village that became an important business hub
when steamboats plied the Ohio. They built churches
churches and schools. They printed newspapers and provided an
uncompromising platform for abolitionists who became an integral part of
the Underground Railroad.
In some ways, not much has changed,
at least when it comes to our great people.
From our rich history to the remarkable community we are today
we've worked to cherish and preserve our past
while leaving our own mark for generations to come.
Come 2014, we will proudly celebrate the two hundredth anniversary
of the founding on New Richmond on the Ohio
And together, we hope to create lasting bicentennial legacy projects
that will carry us for many years to come.
