- Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and thank you for being here and welcome to Suffolk University's newest residence hall at 10 West Street.
It's a pleasure to be here. This is a spectacular home for our new students
and more importantly,
it's what's kicking off what
I believe to be a renaissance for the university. This is going to be one of the most vibrant
and exciting areas the city of Boston in the years to come and Suffolk University is proud to be a part of that.
- First, it's special to be here this afternoon
for the official opening of these
270 dormitory rooms, here in Downtown Crossing. The 6500 square feet of retail space
over there will want to thank Suffolk for making the strategic move that they did
down to West Street.
Our goal is getting as many students into campus living as possible. Suffolk University has taken on that challenge
here where we can use culture as our community in the city of Boston.
- I am thrilled to be part of this exciting day for Suffolk University and its students. This ne
residence hall will give us the opportunity to offer students a chance to live with their piers in safe, affordable housing.
I think we all know that students who live on
campus have a
richer and fuller educational experience,
but in turn, they enliven the neighborhoods around them,
walking to class rather than driving and parking,
frequenting the area businesses, and
generally contributing more fully to the community that they now view as their own.
We look forward with great excitement to working with both our neighbors and our students
to ensure that this new residence hall will not only be a positive edition to the Suffolk community,
but a positive contributor to the downtown
Boston area. Thank you. - This building epitomizes what a dormitory should be.
We have remained true to our roots.
Our students still come from all walks of life,
and indeed they come from
around the globe, but we
seem to ensure
that that transition
to college life is as smooth as possible
and that they be as worry-free
as you can imagine
of where you're going to live.
One of the wonderful benefits of this building
is that our students are going to be blessed
with the experience of living in downtown Boston.
