I think its one of the most exciting groups of people that I’ve ever had the
chance to work with.
We have people from a variety of different areas on campus,
different discipline areas,
different fields – we have students involved, we have staff, we have faculty involved.
So when we get together as a task force group, the energy and the excitement
is quite phenomenal.
I think having the opportunity to share ideas and exchange ideas
in such a forum is quite unique and it’s very stimulating.
It’s a very strong group,
there is a lot of passion in the discussions and engagement with the issues.
I think the letter from the president has really galvanized a lot of interest
and the research task force has certainly shown a lot of energy and enthusiasm for
trying to play its part in the next phases of Forward With Integrity.
I think what people liked best about the letter was that it was really an invitation for this dialogue.
I think we’ve always been thinking about these issues – about the community, internationalization,
and especially about students and teaching and research.
I think a lot of people see this as an opportunity to have our say.
Being able to sit with a student, a graduate student, an undergraduate student, and, say, somebody who’s
working in student services who is working very close, face to face with students
in a different environment, other than a teaching environment, is very exciting.
Well I think it’s imperative that students take charge
in the current process that we are going through. This sort of transformative,
moving generation of ideas. It’s a really fascinating and key potential and opportunity for students to share
their voice and their vision with the university so that we can ensure
that all of their views are being taken into consideration.
All of the task forces are working hard in small groups
but it’s very important of course for the community at large –
the university and the greater community in Hamilton to be engaged in this process.
They can come to the President’s Forum of course, they could also send an email to
fwi@mcmaster.ca and then the committee can have the benefit of their input.
