Hello, I'm Tamara Griffiths, the clinical programme director for the MSc in Skin Ageing
and Aesthetic Medicine. And hello, I'm Mini Singh, the educational programme director.
What we're delivering here is the first-of-kind multi-disciplinary programme with world-renowned
faculty. It is designed for the busy clinician who would like to develop expertise in aesthetic
practice. We've brought together the academic power of the University of Manchester combined
with one of the busiest clinical departments in the UK, based at Salford Royal Foundation
Trust Hospital. The programme consists of part-time distance learning which is supported
by faculty who are experts in the practice of aesthetic medicine. This course is aimed
at dermatologists and dermatology trainees, plastic surgeouns and plastic surgery trainees,
as well as doctors and dentists wh seek to develop an expertise in sin ageing and aesthetic
medicine. We've used a variety of teaching methods to allow you to develop your knowledge
and skills. This includes state-of-the-art IT and multimedia, interactions through blogs,
seminars, but along with this the emphasis is on the opportunity to interact with world
leaders and experts in the field of aesthetic practice. this includes one-to-one tutor time,
includes bedside teaching in clinical arenas, and direct patient contact. Clinical aspects
of the course will be delivered at the dermatology centre at Salford Royal Foundation Trust Hospital.
This is one of the largest and busiest clinical dermatology departments in the UK, affiliated
with over 30 consultants. So students will have access to the premises, the patient cohort,
and also the expertise of the practitioners affiliated with this hospital. This programme
has been underpinned by educational theory offering part-time distance learning supported
by case-based scripts to encourage critical thinking, face-to-face contact in week-long
residentials, where you will see, interact with, and have the opportunity to ask for
feedback on assessments. Assessments will consist of written pieces of work along with
face-to-face presentations, particularly for portfolios, which will develop your lifelong
professional skills. Clinicians who successfully complete their Masters degree in Skin Ageing
and Aesthetic Medicine will not only have the opportunity to deliver high quality care
to their patients, but to become leaders in the field, with the expertise to go on - if
they wish to - to complete doctorate degrees. This is a comprehensive programme, which will
not only cover the clinical aspects of skin aging and aesthetic medicine, but also psychological
aspects in patient assessment, regulatory and legal issues, medical ethics and more.
I hope this has given you a flavour of the exciting Masters programme we have to offer.
