I’d like to thank you for considering Saginaw Valley State University for your graduate
career. I’m Dr. Joni Boye-Beaman and I’m the Dean of the College of Arts and Behavioral
Sciences. I think the reason that students are interested in the programs that we have
at SVSU, has to do with the fact that they really prepare students for the kind of environment
they will find themselves in, either currently in the jobs they hold or in the jobs that
they aspire to hold. And part of the benefit of these courses is that the courses are really
built on a multidisciplinary understanding of how the world works and you’ll receive
a very nice blend of both academic work as well as applied opportunities to think about
the kind of things that you are learning in your classes. For many students, that means
that what they learned in class on Tuesday night, they take in to their work place and
they utilize on Wednesday morning and that’s what we find; I think, the most effective
about the courses that we’re teaching. We have a variety of different faculty members
who teach in the program and many of them are doing research in the areas that students
might be interested in working on and therefore, they would have people that they could collaborate
with. We have a number of students who work on design projects with our design faculty
and we have a number of students who work on graduate thesis with the faculty that have
more academic set of credentials. We also employ a number of practitioners from the
community, who are doing the kinds of jobs that people aspire to do, so they are able
to bring real life experiences into the classroom and I think students find that to be a very
effective learning device. We would very much like you to join us at Saginaw Valley State
University. If you have any questions, you can certainly call our office for further
information and we would welcome you to join us as a student.
