Flash photography is one culprit of blown out and unwanted spots on the face.
Uneven or bright lighting can also reflect off shiny surfaces creating hot spots.
The following steps can help remedy these situations.
And the same technique we used here can be used to cover up bald spots.
For this exercise we want to open data file remove_hot_spot.psd
Just like with the previous module we want to go to the Layers panel and right-click on the Background layer.
Then we want to duplicate that layer and select OK.
Now, let’s zoom in on the image by going to the Tools panel and selecting the Zoom tool.
Click on the hot spot located on the back of the subject’s head in order to zoom in on that area.
Afterwards, let’s go back to the Tools panel and select the Clone Stamp tool.
Now, in the Options bar, we’re going to keep all of the settings the same as with the previous module.
Except this time under Mode we want to select Darken.
If you like to change the diameter of the brush
go ahead and click on the Brush arrow and change the Master Diameter and the Hardness.
For us, we’re going to keep the Master Diameter at 25 pixels and the Hardness at 0%.
So using your mouse, we’re going to hold down the Alt key on your keyboard
and click on an area right below the hot spot in order to sample it.
Then, after releasing the Alt key on your keyboard, using your mouse, click on the hot spot
and drag around the area to remove the entire hot spot.
If you’re not satisfied, you can repeat the steps by sampling another area by holding down the Alt key,
clicking on an area that you would like to sample.
Then after releasing the Alt key, you can click and drag over the hot spot area again in order to better remove it.
Now, let’s zoom back out by clicking on the Zoom tool on the Tools panel.
Then clicking on the Fit Screen button on the Options bar.
Now, to see the before and after, deselect the Visibility icon on the Background copy layer.
Then, turn it back on.
The hot spot has been removed and it still looks very natural.
