So now we get to the part that everybody thinks about when we get to the 70's disco fashion.
So disco fashion was really all about spandex first of all you can tell that this shirt
is very stretchy and it was also about revealing a lot of skin. I mean this is cut down to
Lord knows where but the point of disco fashion is it was supposed to be fun, it was supposed
to be the antidote to the hippie styles of before it was supposed to be like chic and
futuristic and synthetic and maybe that is the biggest thing to talk about. We have talked
about natural fabrics and returning to the Earth and the hippie styles of things but
disco was the opposite of all that, they wanted flash, they wanted nylon, they wanted spandex
so you might have a jumpsuit made out of this entire material or hot pants or a mini dress
and the point is it was supposed to be flashy and once again you see that the use of the
headband which was used in the 60's sort of returns in disco fashion as an accessory and
it is not supposed to be series it is supposed to be fun. Now disco sort of trickles down
to every day wear as you can tell from this shirt which is my mom's from the 70's. This
is actually a business shirt. I would not wear this today and expect to be taken seriously,
right? It is silver, it is shiny, it is synthetic, it also ties at the neck which was another
great trend but you can really see the disco influences in this with it being shiny, a
synthetic fabric and this was supposed to be something for work so you can tell how
much disco infiltrated into your daily wardrobe.
