Hello everyone, my name is Andrew and welcome to the video.
So just woke up this morning, supposed to be at work, but it is snowing like crazy outside.
So the roads are all covered up and yeah, it looks pretty dangerous yet elegant out
there.
So I should be at work right now, but due to the weather, i'm here making a Youtube
video.
So I thought that was pretty cool to share.
So today I want to talk about the book of humanity, the story of mankind that K often
mentions in his talks.
He says, “You are the story of mankind.
In you is the book of humanity.”
All we have to do is read it.
We have to know how to read this book.
So I thought this was confusing when I first heard it because I thought of the traditional
meaning of reading a book.
I equated that meaning with what K was saying, so I assumed that K was talking about, read
your own thoughts, find out what thought means and find these answers basically, which implies
pursuing a certain direction.
When we read a book, we're kind of moving pages in one direction, we're kind of going
down the line and so I was thinking in that terms and I didn't really get it.
So I was watching another video and this one was just like a short one and it really clarified
some things that I want to share in this video.
So what does that mean when he says you are the story of mankind?
You are the book of humanity.
What does that mean?
So we each have our own story.
Now our memories, even though we think that our memory is particular and unique, each
one of us thinks our memory is unique and particular.
So in the superficial sense, on the outside, which is pretty irrelevant, not important...
on the outside, we each have a different kind of experience that has been recorded, however,
that on a deeper level is the common ground in which we all stand or live.
Now each one of us having this unique experience that is recorded, that is common with all
of us and this memory, this recording mechanism, which we refer to as the brain, is common
in all of us and we each can remember things that we personally have not even experienced
or gone through.
So it's like we can tap into this total bank of memory that is available to all of the
brains of humanity.
So for example, my story was with soccer, just trying to become a professional over
a span of 6 years, even though before that growing up, the conditioning and the culture,
trying to become someone great and soccer was that childhood passion of mine that kind
of turned into this destructive rat race towards salvation and freedom.
And that was my story, I was in that, I can see when I look at that, when I read that,
I can see the pleasure of pursuit, of pursuing that dream.
I can see the hope, which was bred from fear.
I can see the comparison of me being a unfit or lack of skill in soccer compared to this
person, compared to celebrities.
I can see the anxiety of trying to get out of my current work and job situation because
I was attached to an idea of being on a professional stadium and all of that.
So we each go through all of this all of this is suffering and we each go through this,
but on the outside it just looks different, which again is irrelevant.
So that is the story of mankind, that is the story that we are all going through, is the
suffering.
And it's not reading this one by one, reading this story page by page, one by one in a straight
line and direction because that's already what we're doing right?
I remember I was trying to be a professional by first going to professional tryouts.
So that was one answer that I figured would solve my problem of making it big.
So I went to a professional tryout, encountered more problems, coach didn't like me, I wasn't
doing so well.
So I said let me sign up for this training academy.
I thought that would solve my problems and then found out the academy was this much money
or the academy required me to move.
So I had some difficulty in getting money.
So it's like when we read the story of mankind page by page, in a line, in the direction
of time, then we are basically looking for answers and in that answer, we have to find
more answers.
So it's like never-ending.
We can't solve all of our problems because there's just more and more problems that arise
from more and more resolutions.
So therefore, how can we read this book?
Now K talks about reading this all in a glance and what I feel that means is to simply just
look at it happening, look at it happening not only when we are alone and it is quiet,
but also look at happening in our relationships with other people.
Now that's what I feel is the most important because it's so prominent in our relationships
because that is when there is a person acting as like a stimulant and I'm over here just
reacting.
When we look we can see our reactions and our reactions are a part of our conditioning,
a part of our programming.
So can we look at our reactions because our reactions are the story of mankind and not
look at these reactions through a certain screen of belief, or an idea, or a way, in
order to achieve something, but not attach or identify as this me character we're playing
as, but just look at that and look at what is going on and say, yes that's the fact,
that’s actually what’s going on.
And anything else I try to do in order to solve this fact, this problem, is from the
same root that has caused the conflict in the first place.
So this also is a kind of learning as well isn't it?
I thought this was pretty amazing to talk about and I guess that's it for this video.
Thanks for watching and listening and I will see you all in the next video.
Have a Happy New Year, Happy Holidays, stay warm and bye bye.
