Nala the Lion -- In 1997, a lion named after a Lion King character escaped from a Florida
Wildlife Park for two days. The big cat, weighing over 400 pounds, was spotted by a helicopter
less than 100 yards from a local hotel.
Leona the Penguin -- A brave penguin, only a few months old, escaped from it's pen and
waddled right into a lion exhibit. Lucky for Leona, the lions were all sleeping in an inside
enclosure and zookeepers lured her out with a trail of herrings.
Kyoto Monkeys -- A group of monkeys used tree branches to catapult themselves over an electric
fence at a Primate Research Center in Kyoto, Japan. The escapees didn't get too far and
were all recaptured.
Nikica the Hippo -- After rising flood levels hit a Montenegro zoo, itss two-ton resident
hippo was able to escape and swim into town. However, she was embraced by the locals, even
being fed by a local restaurant, and eventually caught.
Ken Allen the Orangutan -- The San Diego Zoo housed a legendary escape artist left his
enclosure numerous times. The zoo eventually hired rock climbers to inspect Ken's enclosure
and find and eliminate everything that could aid in his next escape.
Bronx Cobra -- A two-foot long, venomous cobra was on the loose for seven days was eventually
found not far from where she escaped. The snake gained world wide fame when someone
created a twitter account for her.
Monkey Escape -- 175 Rhesus monkeys escaped a Long Island Animal Park in 1935. The park
promised a season pass to anyone would could find, capture and return one of the escaped
monkeys.
