Hi! Happy 2015 !!!
And to beging the year with the right foot,
I'll talk about this beautiful plant
that is blooming here at home.
I'm in love with it!
It is the Peace Lily. And because it is New Year's Day, is a day that
we like to wish peace, love, harmony, light
and all good things for this beautiful and
wonderful year that is just beginning!
This plant loves partial shade, it is from the
Noth of South America... Venezuela, Colombia and so on ...
I picked up my measure tape to measure, I'm impressed with
the size of this inflorescence. Look at this beauty!
Look here to see I'm not lying, look here;
It is almost 1 meter tall. So wonderful!
It is a flower that has no smell, unfortunately, but it is very beautiful!
What we call flower in fact is an inflorescence.
As I have said, it likes partial shade.
So this environment here under the pergola is ideal for it.
It likes water, not too much, nor to little,
so in the summer 3x a week, and in winter once or twice
a week is very good. As I always say about watering,
always watch your plant.
So if you notice that it is like that,
kind of withered, kind a fading, it is because it needs water.
If it is very pretty, like mine here, it is fine,
today for example, there is no need of watering, because I watered yesterday.
It likes manure, you can fertilize it 3x a year more or less.
If you want a good compost, an organic fertilizer, I'll let
the recipie at the end of the video, an organic fertilizer which is great for flowering plants.
You put a tablespoon around the foot of the plant, right? And water after.
The important thing is always when you fertilize, fertilize in the end of the day.
Some leaves dry in time, right? As our hair, right?
Over time, the hair, some cold fall, there is a renewal.
The leaves too, so you can cut off these leaves that are dry.
And then the inflorescence also when it is ugly, dry,
you cut it off, to let your plant always beautiful.
Here I wanted to show, look how nice! It grows tiny and it
goes up and then it will open and turn a wonderful goes up and then it will open and turn wonderful
inflorescence as this one you are seeing! This plant, like the ferns, usually these plants
love water on the leaves.
So you can do like this
You go watering ...
Once you water on soil, another time you just water the leaves.
Especially now in the summer, they love
getting water on their leaves. This also helps to clean up the leaves.
If you live in a polluted city as I live, here in São Paulo,
will adding a lot of pollution in the leaves. So when you throw a water like that
you help to clean up a bit, because the plant breathes through the leave. So
if you clean the leaves, it will be able to breathe better,
and it will be more happy, right?
Oh, here's a tip!
Always make it on a cloudy day
like today or do in the morning,
until 9:30 am or after 4:30 pm.
After the strong sun has gone away.
If you water your plants in the middle of the day,
you will cook your plants! Because these droplets of water that are here,
by the time the sun shines, they work like a magnifying glass, so
they can burn the plant, right? And that's not what you want, you want
to take care, that your plant becomes more beautiful. So avoid strong sunlight hours for watering your plant.
That's it folks!
