for gallery vivid this is the third time
to go to miami
and we are very glad to bring new
unique pieces by studio job.
they worked with a famous
crystal firm Val Saint-Lambert
they made a big piece
with the Val Saint-Lambert factory
and then they went into the factory and they discovered a huge storage
of old pieces
some hundred years old
that were never produced. the factory
at one point in history was bigger than Baccarat
there worked five hundred people
worked in the factory
and they had to
produced because the ovens were not allowed to turn off
so all those pieces they produced
and never used, they went into a storage
and this storage
that uh... yeah
was kind of
waste
but Job said well, we we can do something with those old pieces
with each block
they said well we give it a kind of function
as a vessel
one turned into a coffee pot, one into a wastebasket
and that's what they did with this block. this block
was already hundred years old and was crafted with their design
and they added the bronze pieces and now we have a new piece
and so we have a collection of five unique pieces
the nice thing about it is is that they are so well crafted
uh... and they combine the
high-level
of Val Saint-Lambert with their own high-level
of making
bronze
additions to
the crystal
the nice thing about this block is that it's
a piece with
not to real function
but you see all their techniques in one.
here you have the old crystal block
nearly we have the bronze with on top of it gold
then you have the ship that's also bronze but painted black
and you have the porcelain
that's also added
so all their craftmanship is in this piece
and I think of all those five pieces
this is the top piece
studio Job
has a
are i think in the field of design are quite original
they use
sometimes
quite classical forms
to make a peace is that there are always kind of metaphors of simple
ideas
a chocolate pot, a coffee pot
a hat
simple things but they turn it into
a new form
that's what you see here this waste bucket
it works perfectly as a waste bucket
only it's too heavy
to be a useful piece
but that's the funny thing is
it's always inbetween arts and design it has a function
but you can't use it
