We currently employ about 1,800 employees at just Thunder Basin Coal Company here in
Powder River Basin. Now, outside of that, we have two local communicates that depend
heavily on the coal mining industry. I can’t imagine if the coal mine wasn’t here, everything
it takes to run the coal mine? not just our employees, but all the contractors, all the
people that supply our equipment and maintain it, right down to the people that work for
them at a local level in town. All that would erode without our coal mine here. If coal
was cut back, locally a lot of people would be out of jobs. I think on a national level,
I just do not see where you can come up with an alternative energy that would be able to
do what coal is doing right now. We have the most abundant natural resource right under
the ground here, right here locally. We can mine it we can produce electricity at a cheaper
rate for our people, and we can keep it here in our country and support our people with
the jobs it takes to mine this coal and produce it. I just wish that people before they try
to eliminate good American jobs that they educate themselves a little bit more on what
coal mining really is and what it actually does for them. Maybe we’re on their side,
maybe we’re not the enemy.
