Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. Volunteers will be out in force this
spring to help clean up Kentucky’s highways. The Transportation Cabinet’s Adopt-a-Highway
Spring Clean Week will be held March 20 through 26.
More than nine hundred groups participate in Kentucky's Adopt-a-Highway program.
Volunteers clean over sixty-eight hundred miles of roadside annually.
Volunteer groups sign a contract to adopt 2-mile sections of highway.
Groups interested in joining the program can find details at adopt-a-highway.ky.gov
And for anyone planning to celebrate a night out for Saint Patrick’s Day, the Kentucky
Office of Highway Safety has a reminder to designate a sober driver before the party
begins. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration show that in 2009, more than a third of the drivers and motorcyclists
involved in fatal St. Patrick’s Day crashes had a blood alcohol content of zero-point-zero-eight
or above. Remember, friends don’t let friends drive
drunk. This has been your KYTC minute –
