Welcome to the National Weather Service covering southern Oregon and northern California.
This is a short video explaining the weather and the weather impacts you could see this holiday
weekend leading into President’s Day.
A strong cold front will push quickly across
Southern Oregon Friday evening. Snow levels will drop from 6000 feet on Friday afternoon
to between 1500 and 2000 feet early Saturday morning.
Westerly flow behind the front will produce
heavier snow accumulation in the Douglas County foothills and areas north of Highway
140 in the Cascades and also in the higher elevations of the Coastal Range in Curry and
Western Josephine Counties such as the Kalmiopsis Wilderness.
There is also concern for brief periods
of heavy snow showers between Sexton Summit and Stage Road Pass on Interstate 5
late Friday night and Saturday. Before traveling this weekend, be sure to check road conditions
on tripcheck.com or call 511.
For those of you heading to the coast, seas will become hazardous this weekend
as larger swells approach our coast Saturday morning and peak between
20 and 25 feet late Saturday. Breaker heights could be as high as 30 feet in the surf zone.
Check our website at weather.gov/medford through the weekend for updates to the forecast.
A high surf advisory or high surf warning may be issued.
Again, the impacts will mostly involve winter driving conditions and hazardous seas.
Check road conditions on tripcheck.com or by dialing 511 and keep an eye on the
hazardous seas by checking back to our website at weather.gov/medford.
As always when the seas are high stay off of jetties!
Thank you for listening and be safe.
