Hello World. This is L.
The day that this video is uploaded marks the 15th birthday of Google, the internationally
most used Search Engine. It seems apropriate to take this moment to talk about the significance
of
search engines and how they can be useful but at the same time dangerous.
It has come to my attention that a large number of people if not the majority lacks the necessary
tools to properly find and read news articles. This is not a trivial skill, it is of vital
importance to not only be aware of one's immediate surroundings but also the occurrences all
around this planet.
If you think reading news properly is as simple as opening up search engine and typing in
your search terms, you are completely wrong. Google and many other search engines use what
is
called a search bubble, which means Google knows your opinions and views due to prolonged
use and will adapt the search results to posts you most likely agree with.
So one person might get search results supporting the NSA and one might get search results against
the NSA for the EXACT SAME SEARCH KEYWORDS.
This isn't only a Google phenomenon, most large search engines do the exact same thing.
This can be avoided by utilizing one of available search bubble free search engines, like DuckDuckGo
or others. These search engine will not adapt to your opinions and thus you will get objective
search results. If you only surround yourself with the views that you already agree with,
then
your brain will apart from dying of boredom be entirely unchallenged in its view. Remaining
entirely unchallenged leads to being uninformed. Over time being uninformed leads to being
ignorant. Over time being ignorant leads to not only mental stagnation but an undermining
of democracy, since the proper workflow of democracy NEEDS INFORMED VOTERS. Do not be
caught in
opinion or seach bubbles. Contribute to constructive discussion. Do you think one can be a helpful
contribution to the debate if all one ever reads and hears is one's own opinion? You
should reflect on the implications of search bubbles. It's important.
The revolution is now. The internet empowers you. This is L. You will hear from me soon.
