Puffer trains used to rush along the oldest station in Kyushu,Japan
Nogata Station
We are proud of it, here since 1910, 101 years ago, at time of our great-grandparents.
Built when Nogata was the center of coalmining, for Japan’s economy to take off.
Now is the time to preserve it as the most important heritage in Japan.
Hi, everyone.
The station behind me is the oldest one, now existing in Kyushu cities in Japan.
It was built in 1910, one century ago, celebrating its 101st anniversary in 2011.
But it’s now going to be destroyed!
Nogata city has decided to scrap simply because it is old.
Scrap plan was presented 5 years ago.
the municipal assembly has resolved unanimously,
without any prior research
assuming researches should have been done in advance.
Hearing it's going to disappear actually, over 25,000 people got together for signature.
There are many old heritages in Japan, as well as in other countries in Asia.
Economy is important.
City officials were requested to just wait and see when economy was good.
They are forced to make up economical merits by themselves, when economy turns dark,
quite easily by destroying buildings at hand.
This way, in Japan, historical buildings are being destroyed one after another.
They say Japan is governed by law,
but each heritage is hardly preserved.
Japan is suffering from natural disasters, such as typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis...
How come it’s possible for Japanese to destroy by their own hands, inventing economical merits?
Without seeking after invented merits to live a pleasant life at moment,
Without scrapping buildings,
I do wish to pass Nogata station to our future children.
Nobuhiko Obayashi, film director, after observed Nogata station, said
“Now is the time to aim to be the head of culture, instead of running after tails of civilization.”
I wish to leave the Landmark of the city, as it is... It’s a historical modern architecture in 1910.
That’s Nogata station!
Please help us to defend and use wisely the Nogata station, one of the oldest in Japan!
Please give us your support and assistance! (mlnogata@live.jp)
