>> Hello. I'm Dr. Mikael Snitker-Magin,
Educational Counselor
in the Educational Counseling
and Disabilities Services Office.
I'm here to talk with your about a myth related
to disability documentation.
Just about every institution
in the United States has a Disability Services Program
such as the one at Ferris.
The role of that office is to provide support to faculty
and students regarding disability
accommodation requests.
Part of our role is to review disability documentation
that a student submits to our office
and consider their request for accommodations.
So, if a student approaches you and wants to give you a copy
of their disability documentation,
do not accept the documentation.
Refuse the documentation and politely refer the student
to the Educational Counseling
and Disabilities Services Office.
Our office is the office that will look at the documentation
and make a disability determination either in favor
of the request or denying the request
that the student may have.
That is not a position that you want to be
in as a faculty member in the classroom.
We will work with you with regard to the accommodations.
If you have questions about how
to best implement those accommodations,
you're encouraged to contact us.
Our phone number is 231-591-3057,
or at email: ecds@ferris.edu.
Thank you.
