Hi, this is Kenton from profitnotvanity.com
Welcome to FB Migrate - in this series of short videos I'm going to talk you through the process of
converting a Facebook Personal Profile in to a Business Page.
This publication is for those people who are promoting a business using a Facebook Personal Profile.
The easiest way to check whether you have a Personal Profile is to look at the Information Bar and see if it mentions 'Friends'.
If it does, you have logged in to a Personal Profile - and if that profile represents a business,
not a real person, then it may be to your advantage to convert it in to a Business Page.
The great thing about the conversion process is that it converts all your profile's "Friends" in to "Likes".
So you don't lose the connection with people that you've carefully built up over time - you don't start from zero again.
Now I should make it clear that this is NOT for people who are logged on to a facebook page that's in their name
that they use to keep in touch with their friends. You should only migrate your profile if you're logged-in to profile that is in the
name of a business. And you should know that it may not be possible to convert a business page back in to personal profile
so if you're not sure whether your page should be migrated then it's best to seek some help before you continue with these videos.
Now I should explain why you've got this problem - when you sign up for facebook it's not obvious how to create a Page for a business.
You see this large sign-up box and although it doesn't seem to fit that a business should enter its First Name and birthday,
there doesn't appear to be any other choice. You have to look really carefully to spot the link that business owners are supposed to click.
There it is - right at the bottom.
Consequently a lot of people have simply typed something like "Fred's Hardware Store" in to these boxes
and continued to successfully create a facebook page.
So the obvious question is - if everything's working fine, why bother change it?
Well, first, and probably most importantly, is that it breaks your agreement with
Facebook's to promote a business using a personal profile.
And if someone reports you for doing it (perhaps a rival firm) then your account can be disabled.
Second, there are great advantages to operating a business Page:
Facebook let you see a limited but useful amount of data about the people who are "Like" your pages and those that view it.
As examples, you can see how many people your page is reaching, you can see their age and gender distribution
and you can even see how popular individual posts are -
which allows you to fine-tune your posts to gain maximum viral exposure.
You can also give other people the power to administer your Page without giving them a password.
You can restrict the power of these administrators so that they can't delete your Page
and you can restrict what they can see and do. You can also remove them at any time
so staff who are leaving your company can be easily removed without needing to change and distribute new passwords.
Now there are some disadvantages to Business Pages
the most often cited one is that you can't directly message your fans on a Business Page.
You have to rely on them seeing the information you post within their Newsfeed
which means you need to produce engaging, creative, interesting content.
But in truth - you have no real choice. Facebook will disable your account if they realise you're promoting a business using a personal profile.
Now before we get started I must warn you that performing a migration may result in data lost.
That's beyond my control and so I can't accept any responsibility for it.
Also you should know that these recordings have not been sanctioned by facebook or approved by them.
So with that said - it's time to move on to the next video and begin the process of migrating your business's personal profile to a Business Page...
