In a day in age where all graduates are expected to be experienced
I feel that the education provided in the classrooms are too theory based.
I'm concerned about my education
in the form of me not being able to graduate within a timely manner.
That's my biggest concern right now.
One of my biggest concerns of my education is, I feel like I don't get
the education I want with the money I pay
Some of the concerns I have about my education is just that
I'm not going to get the classes I need to graduate and also that I'm not
getting the full benefits that I should be getting because of all these budget cuts because things are getting cut out
Luckily, yes.
This quarter I wasn't, I was able to get two classes.
and the other two weren't related to my major
Recently, no because of the major budget cuts.
I've been limited to take selected classes, not the classes I really want.
It's been hurting the school for a while now.
I am coming to the end of my fourth year and I was getting the classes I need to graduate,
but now because my department, the art department, is being cut along with other classes
it's a little bit more difficult to get those classes so I have to prolong when I'm going to graduate
The furloughs have definitely cut back on in class time
causing me to be more dependent on the materials presented in the textbooks
Unfortunately, some of us learn best through human interactions and lectures
I'm a student assistant at the Ceasar Chavez Center for higher education
I don't get to work on Fridays
Students can't print. Sometimes when I want to use the library on furlough days. I can't use the library
so it's just to that extent.
The campus furloughs have definitely affected my classes
just because each teacher has to takes so many days off.
So that's less time in class and as an Art major
it's really hard to have my classes cut because we do need that in class time
so, they have affected it.
One of the things I noticed about furlough days is that it cancels a lot of the school days that were required to attend
but were still required to know that information so it puts a lot of workload on students.
Budget cuts. Class cuts.
A lot of the things are affecting class sizes
There's less one on one contact with the professor now, which makes it difficult for students.
I think my greatest concern would be the lack of resources
and graduation, for sure.
I feel that as the resources are being cut, diversity is being cut as well.
Cal Poly Pomona takes a lot of pride in being a diversified campus.
As my graduation is coming near
One of my greatest concerns is finding a job after I graduate.
Without a doubt, the economy crisis has greatly changed many aspects of education in this country
and we see that more and more everyday.
So these modifications in the CSU system are seen in the monetary value of the education,
the support in our resources, and even in the methods and theories presented in classrooms.
Should this continue, the education in our country in the future
will be brief, general, inapplicable, and irrelevant to the real world.
I would say as a CSU student, some of my greatest concerns right now are just how
the budget cuts are going to impact the school for future students.
I'm almost done here at Cal Poly, I have about a year left
but my greatest concern is how it's going to impact future students and if people are even going to be able to come to CSUs.
The reason why I came here is because of my financial needs
I was able to come here and go to school.
I'm just concerned about people in the future if they're going to be able to pay, even for CSU schools.
It has been said that the CSU education is more application focused rather than research oriented.
So for that reason I hope to fully dive into the corporate world
as a prepared leader after graduation because of the preparation received while in college.
My CSU education is definitely, hopefully, get me a job.
It should be getting me a job
And after I graduate, I just hope to find a job in the design world somewhere
As of right now, just the way that the whole state is looking, any job that I can get with design or art will be good for me.
As far as what the CSU has done for me
I feel that they've prepared me for the outside world for after I graduate.
Luckily for me I'm working on an Accounting degree
and hopefully I can find a decent accounting position with my CSU degree.
I think that the Cal Poly Pomona has built who I am.
I'll probably attend of the the UCs.
I think without the CSUs I would be in a community college or if not just working.
I would most likely be at a community college waiting to transfer to a far, far, away school.
Without the CSU, I would honestly have to say I would be at a junior college
When I was applying for schools, the CSUs were the ones that I had to apply for just because of my financial needs.
Yeah, I might not even be in college if it wasn't for the CSUs.
