Hi! This is Mary - Scrapbooing Grandma
This is Part 2 of the scallop explosion box. "Christmas Is" is the name of the project.
I'm going to show you how to design this box using the Cricut Gypsy.
Here we are at the Cricut Gypsy. I have my curser height set at 2.75
I'm going to go to the Winter Woodland Cartridge. I want the scallop square.
So I'm going to select the scallop square and place it on my mat.
I'm going to turn the ratio button off (The ratio button looks like 2 link chains.) It will turn white when it is off.
Now I'm going to turn on the Real Dial Size. The Real Dial Size button looks like the letter "a"
I'm going to go to the width window and change my width to 2.75 so my box is square 2.75X2.75
Now I'm going to center the square on my mat.
Then I go to the Advance Tab. Then I press Duplicate which is the copy/paste button.
Now I'm going to position my box on the mat. I will overlap the boxes just enough so the weld correctly.
Now I'm going to weld them. So now when I duplicate I will not have to keep pressing the weld button to weld them.
Now I will keep duplicating the image forming a cross shape. All boxes will be slightly overlapped for the weld to take hold.
Now you have your 1st layer for your box.
Next I'm going to go to the Basic Tab and check the position of each box on the mat so they line up evenly.
I select the center box and the X position is at 4.59 and the Y position is at 4.84
I'm going to select the top box and position the X position to 4.59. The X position is a verticle line up on your mat.
Now I'm going to change the bottom box position to 4.95. Now all the verticle boxes are lined up on the mat vertically.
Now I'm going to do the same thing going across for the horizontal boxes.
I'm going to select the center box. The Y postion is at 4.84
Now I'm going to change the other 2 side boxes to 4.84
Now I'm going to preview how the box will cut (the preview button is the icon with the eye on) The preview looks good and it will cut how I want it to.
Now I'm going to press the + sign in the upper left corner of the screen to add a page 2.
Now I'm going to go to the Winter Woodland Cartridge. I'm going to select the scallop square and place on my mat.
I'm going to go to the Basic Tab. I'm going to adjust the Height and Width to 3"
You can see the image from the first page it is like a template. I'm going to center the box within the template of the 1st page.
It doesn't have to line up with the image from the 1st page but you can line it up to see what it looks like.
Now I'm going to go to the Advance Tab I'm going to select my square then press the weld button. The reason I'm doing that is when I copy/paste I don't have to keep welding the image over and over.
Now you are going to copy/paste the image and place the squares around the middle square. And repeat the same process like on page one.
Now I'm going to repeat the process of lining the boxes up first vertically. That is the X position and that is at 4.47
Now I'm going to bottom box X position to 4.47
Now on the boxes going horizontally. I am going to change my Y position to 4.66
And this box is already at 4.66
I'm going to press the + and add another page.
Now I'm going to make the lid. I'm going to go back to the cartridge and get a scalloped square.
I'm going to go to the Basic Tab. My box is 4 inches but I want my lid to be 8" square.
I'm going to change my width to 8.0 Next I'm going to change my height to 8.0 And here is my lid.
Before I show you how to make the lid I wanted to show you the snowflake cover.
The snowflake cover will go over the lid of your box. I'm going to show you how to make the snowflake cover next.
Now I'm going to add another page by pressing the plus sign in the upper left hand coner. This will add page 4.
I'm going to set my curser at 4 inces.
Now I'm going to get the square from George and Basic Shapes and place that on my mat.
Next I'm going to select my snowflake (it will turn blue) then I'm going to duplicate using copy/paste button.
I'm going to go to the Christmas Cartridge to get the snowflake and place on my mat.
I'm going to position my snowflake over the square.
I'm going to go to the Advance Tab. I'm going to select the snowflake and weld. Then I'm going to select the box and weld.
Next I'm going to rotate the snowflake. I want 3 of the tips to cut out from the snowflake.
Now I'm going to position my snowflake on the box.
Then I'm going to Duplicate the snowflake and position on the other side of the box.
And for the top snowflake I'm going to select the bottom snowflake, duplicate and position on top.
I checked to make sure everything is welded. Now I'm going to do a preview.
Now you have a nice lacy cover for the top and bottom of you box.
Some of you may think it is easier to design an explosion box by hand. But you can get a little more decorative with the Gypsy.
Once you have your file made. All you need to do is open your file and cut and then score your lines.
Thats how you do an Explosion Box with the Cricut Gypsy. Happy Crafting!!
