So what you can expect from Aikido, in terms of a physical benefit as you've seen some
of the videos already I think, is a very aerobic activity. It's not a martial art that we're
going to focus on a lot of strength training. We're not going to do a bunch of pushups and
situps before class.
But as you see 50 percent of your training is going to be falling and getting up again.
You do that for an hour or two solid and you've just done, I don't know, 150 squats, 200 squats.
And in my personal opinion this is a more full bodied movement and activity than you'd
find in running, yoga, gymnastics. This is something that you have to use, incorporate
your entire body in practicing.
And for that you're going to have increased endurance, stability, strength, stamina, flexibility
in terms of general movement. It's not something that we focus on stretching a lot. We don't
have to do any high kicks. But in terms of keeping yourself flexible and able to move
and adapt is a very big benefit.
It also creates a fair amount of awareness in your surroundings so that you're not oblivious
to what's around you. You should always be aware and keep a fair amount of extension
through your body and use the energy that you've created here in the Dojo and in your
everyday life.
So in terms of what you can expect in your daily life you should be able to increase
stamina. It's a lot of fun to do and it's a very good way to lose weight. It's an excellent
way to blow off steam and stay flexible and move and create awareness and movement in
your everyday life.
Aikido can be a very beneficial activity aside from its martial aspects.
