>>PETER TARACH: We’ve traveled halfway around the world to South-western Germany to drive
the Scion FR-S, also known as the GT86 on the highway with no speed limit, the Autobahn.
And as a special treat we’ll be headed to the Nürburgring Nordschlife but before we
do that, we have to get our car fitted with proper suspension and that’s why were here
at KW HQ.
KW suspension has quickly developed a name for itself, in both motorsport and the aftermarket.
Every KW coil over is produced in-house at its Fichtenberg Germany facility where rigorous
testing and proven performance results are at the top of the list.
That’s why we’ve made it the suspension of choice on our GarageFR-S project car.
The GT86 is already a well-equipped sports but car the Nürburgring nordschilfe and autobahn
are both demanding roads. That’s why KW has opted to install a set
of Variant 3 Coilovers on their car to give us that extra confidence booth and grip when
we’ll be going flat out on the ring or hitting the rev-limiter on the Autobahn.
But you don’t have to take our word for it; KW tests their coil overs on a 7-post
shaker rig that is capable of reproducing road vibrations, bumps, and even reproducing
racetracks.
[SPEAKING GERMAN]
>>PETER: Enough talk already, it’s time we get behind the wheel of the GT86 and see
what its’ capable of on Germany’s infamous Autobahn.
We’re entering on the Autobahn here, the roadways are as open as they come, and the
Scion feels planted. There’s 180, still climbing, 190…. And
we’ve hit 200!
THAT is a fun ride and that’s what you got to love about the Autobahn!
Since our GarageFRS project car has a set of BBS E88 wheels installed on it, we decided
to come the BBS motorsports division and see how they are manufactured.
Driven to the highest demands and working with in close collaboration with race teams,
BBS motorsports division located in Schiltach Germany produces some of the most technologically
advanced wheels on the market. Using such materials as forged aluminum and magnesium,
allows BBS to build ultra high strength motorsports wheels that are incredibly lightweight and
durable. Our very own GrageFRS project car had its
custom wheels, a set of BBS E88 motorsports rims built in this same facility, and true
to the name, the wheels are every bit as perfect as we imagined them to be.
Our GarageFR-S Euro adventure is almost complete, there’s just one more exploit left that
we got to do, it’s by far the most exciting we tackle the worlds greatest race track.
The Nürburgring Nordschlife!!
