[Music] Title: How We Do It, 2018 Midyear Review
Narrator: When you think of IT you probably imagine a person at a desk who fixes computers.
And we do.
But we do so much more than that.
In OIT we support each other we support VA,
and we support Veterans and their families.
We are guided by five priorities that support how we modernize and innovate in OIT.
We're consolidating our many data centers.
William Ashley: It looks small if you just take away half of one network closet.
If you take away half of one network closest out of every VA hospital
well now you've opened up space for a lot of things.
Narrator: We're in the process of moving VA to the cloud.
Eyram Afia: if a person moves to another computer,
it doesn't have to worry about favorites, 'my files', and 'my email'
because no matter where you are you will just connect the one desktop online anyway
Narrator: We're scaling up our cybersecurity efforts.
Barbara Romeo: We use what's called two-factor authentication
which means if you don't have a PIV card your computer is a paperweight.
And we also require annual training for all of our users -
all our students, volunteers, employees, contractors.
Albert Williams: Laptops can be stolen or you know...
anything could happen.
With having a really good system in place
that locks down those laptops it definitely reassures individuals that their information won't be taken.
Narrator: We're digitizing our mission-critical business processes
Edgar Maymi: it really just slows everything down when you have to go back
to paper and do a restoring backups and print everything out and we're
Narrator: And we're decommissioning legacy systems so that accessing, maintaining, and protecting
Veteran data is easier than ever before.
Lance Carter: When it comes to supporting,
IT supporting protecting Veterans data, it is definitely a top priority
for us there is no questions asked in regards to that.
Narrator: Because every VA employee
should have the best tools available to help them do their jobs
Shelby Richardson: Every day I support VA employees and Veterans by keeping their phones and pagers functional.
Ryan Woodward: My main role is to help VA employees be able to accomplish the mission that they have.
Craig Tuttle: If they can't do their job they can't help the Veterans
so we're helping them help the Veterans.
Narrator: In OIT we support each other, and our business partners
to ensure that we provide the best experience for the Veterans we serve.
