Hello everyone, this is Max and welcome for this Dota 2’s character introduction video.
Today we’re gonna talk about Shadow Demon.
Shadow Demon is a really versatile intelligence hero that can be played as a support or a ganker.
He will be a pain in the *** during the laning phase thanks to his long distance harass
and his disruption protecting him from any assault.
Once he reaches level 6, he becomes one of the best 1v1 hero during the early and mid game.
Be careful though, like every other intelligence hero, he’s fragile !
During teamfights, you’ll have to stay away from danger while annoying everyone in the opponent team.
The first skill of Shadow Demon is Disruption.
Just like the Outworld Destroyer’s Astral Imprisonment,
it places an allied or enemy hero in another dimension during 2.5 seconds.
At the end of Disruption, two illusions of the targeted hero are created lasting up to 8 seconds,
inflicting 60% of the hero’s damage and taking 150%.
Disruption is useful during the whole game.
At the beginning, it’s generally used as a disable allowing to escape, to chase or to help your mates.
Later the created illusions can help to push or inflict high damage if you’re aiming for a carry.
The second ability of Shadow Demon is Soul Catcher, a damage amplifier.
Once the skill is launched, an enemy unit who’s in the AoE will take 50% more damage.
The unit under this spell’s effect is chosen randomly among all those in the area.
If there is only one unit, it will get the debuff, so use this skill to target the good enemy !
Sould Catcher is really useful for ganks, if effectively used, you will kill your enemy way quicker.
Shadow Poison is THE spell that makes Shadow Demon a really feared enemy during the laning phase.
This skill will allow you to launch a poison wave straight forward
which will inflict at the beginning 50 damage and a “mark” on all touched enemies.
If you manage to touch an enemy several times, marks will stack.
10 seconds after the last mark, the poison will explode and deal exponential damage until the 4th mark.
At max level, these marks will inflict 520 damage,
which makes of Shadow Poison one of the most powerful spells of the whole game.
Be aware that you can make the poison explode when you wish to thanks to “Poison Release”.
Plus, a hero infected by the poison will be visible for your team and yourself, even in the war fog.
This spell has many use.
First of all, it deals huge damage if you manage to stack it,
which is a good help to destroy an entire creep wave and then defend or push pretty easily.
It will also guarantee a good lane control, thanks to its range of 1500.
(You can cancel an enemy’s potion without taking any risk for example)
Finally, it comes in handy when you need to scout potentially dangerous spots like Roshan’s den.
Demonice Purge is Shadow Demon’s ultimate.
It’s a powerful single target ability used to weaken and deal huge damage to the opponent.
Concretely, this spell removes all the target’s buffs (for example Sven’s ultimate, Broodmother’s one, etc.),
inflict a slow and deals up to 400 damage at max level.
This skill is all-purpose, you can chase an enemy, run away,
indicate the opponent to target during a teamfight or even to finish a fugitive.
Regarding the skill order :
At start, take a level of Disruption, then two levels of Shadow Poison and one of Soul Catcher once you’re level 4.
Continue to upgrade Shadow Poison, taking your Ultimate at level 6.
Once level 8, upgrade Soul Catcher, take your Ultimate at level 11 and upgrade Disruption last.
Let’s talk about the equipment now !
As a starter, take 3 Iron Branches, 2 sets of Tangos and a Ring of Protection.
Upgrade your Iron Branches into a Magic Wand and your Ring of Protection into a Ring of Basilius
which will give you an armor and regen mana aura that your team will benefit from.
Buy your Boots of Speed, that you will upgrade into Power Treads if you feel like you need to tank more
or into Arcane Boots if you prefer to spam your abilities.
Shadow Demon is a really good ganker, so have no hesitation buying an Urn of Shadows
which will fill quickly and give you a heal or a DoT.
You can then start to build a Mekansm, to push and for its very useful heal during teamfights.
A Force Staff will also give you a very interesting escape.
If you ever need some mana regen, the Eul’s Scepter of Divinity is also an excellent choice.
During the late game, you can also buy a Scythe of Vyse to have one more disable.
Finally, if you’re facing a lot of physical damage dealers, have no hesitation to build a Shiva’s Guard.
There it is, it’s over for Shadow Demon !
