Question: 80 decision makers and experts come together -
how to better manage, respond to, and prepare for global risks?
Klaus Schwab: We want to start something which is absolutely necessary first of all
to help the world to increase its risk resilience.
Kevin Steinberg: As we thought about the launch of the Risk Response Network,
we were thinking very hard about how we can enable global decision makers to better
understand, respond to, prepare for, and capture opportunities associated with
risk. The Risk Response Network brings together
a broad number of individuals and organizations, from global experts on
different topics to companies to governments and others but one of the
things that we knew we needed was a decisive and dedicated group, a Risk
Officer Community that could not only take advantage and learn from elements of the
network but collectively take action.
Vivek Kundra: The ability to tap into a diverse network of people who are
confronting similar challenges that we are enables us to share ideas, best practices,
and also leverage each other's expertise when we confront crisis.
Richard Walker: The premise of this body is how do you create discipline around
things that are either unknown, incredibly unprecedented, and continuously fluid.
Herman Leonard: And if instead you put your faith in your ability to build
a system that's going to quickly adapt to it.
Kevin Steinberg: This is the first time that anyone has gathered a community like
this one, a community that brings together the
public sector, governments from around the world,
the private sector - from financial services to insurance,
consumer goods, and a range of other companies -
as well as international organizations all to work together with a common approach -
to work as peers to really make a difference.
Male Speaker: We would very much appreciate your thoughts on how we can
work with you on this issue.
Yuiko Edano: We as a government would not be able to create that society without the
engagement and cooperation of the private sector that brings us these kinds of
solutions. Paul Richardson: Most corporations have
very good networking within their industries, within their environment;
most governments are very good at networking within their environments;
but the bridge between the two is not that common and not that easy to make but
actually what the world needs is those bridges to be developed and connected -
I think that's also a key part of what this community could bring together on
a real time basis.
Gail Fosler: You can pick up the phone because you've met somebody at a meeting
like this and say "Look, what she said was really
interesting and I've got this problem" and have the confidence and trust that you
can discuss that problem with them and that will be an enormous step forward.
Kevin Steinberg: We are just getting going but there are tremendous opportunities for
us to contribute in a number of ways
and we look forward to this being a contribution to the international
community to help companies, governments, and others better engage,
better contribute, and hopefully have a greater impact going forward.
