I was disappointed
that maybe there would be some change of heart in the next
few hours
and despite the significant efforts we made to accommodate Republicans with a Small Jobs
Innovation Bill.
We’ve been unable to reach an agreement that
would help tens of thousands of small business create jobs.
I was told by my staff that uh...
Republicans introduced their jobs bill and I glanced at it.
It’s a funny way to start.
We have this small business innovation job that has created
thousands of jobs around the country
but we’re being blocked from doing that.
This Bill has been on the Senate floor since March 10th
and we've done everything that we can to accommodate Republicans.
I’ve talked to Senator Coburn on a number of occasions, he’s satisfied with what we've done.
We agreed
to do the amendment offer by Senator Cornyn, one by Senator Hutchison.
None of these amendments
have anything to do with the legislation before us but in our effort to compromise and
move forward I have agreed to
allow these amendments to go forward.
So it's hard for me to
base this in relation to what the Republican’s came here a few minutes ago and said about jobs
but we can’t do the most basic jobs bill that we have here in the Senate and this is a small business
innovation jobs bill.
I can’t understand we can’t finish the debate on this legislation.
so there are many other challenges ahead that we need to work together to find solutions
cutting the deficit,
bring down gas prices,
proving our judges, getting nominations approved
so as we move toward I hope that the spirit of unity we're seeking today
helps us come together to solve these challenges.
