Stuffed cats, cat pictures, cat memes. Why am I so obsessed with cats?
Maybe you’re a crazy cat lady. That would explain the obsession, or be the reason for
it.
That’s an old myth, perpetuated by the Simpsons cartoon.
Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite that is spread through cat poop. They discovered that it
makes mice unafraid of cats, so they’re more likely to be eaten.
I can promise you, no matter how cat crazy I seem, I don’t eat rats.
Toxoplasma gondii has been linked to miscarriages in women. And it alters human behavior.
I had not heard that, except for the danger to pregnant women and advice that they not
empty litter boxes.
Infected women becoming more intelligent, affectionate, outgoing and follow social rules.
But they have an increased risk of schizophrenia, neuroticism, insecurity and depression.
Hence the crazy cat lady.
While far more women have cats, it affects men, too. Men lose some of their ability to
concentrate while somewhat more neurotic.
I wonder if that parasite is why so many more kids have ADD and ADHD.
Or why you’re so neurotic and obsessed with cats?
But they’re so cute! And the cat meme is so popular, the grumpy cat meme cat actually
got a job as a cat food sales critter.
Cat fancy isn’t modern. The Egyptians worshipped cats and mummified thousands of them as gods.
There are even cat photos going back to the 1870s of them in cute positions like kittens
riding stuffed horses.
Then I’m not crazy.
You’re not crazy, just a little weird.
If this personality trait goes back thousands of years across continents and cultures with
documented evidence, it’s absolutely normal.
Or it’s a bizarre subculture that’s lived on and on …
You’re paranoid.
You’re the one who said she was obsessed with cats.
