The organization SANMAT (SSNMT) formed by me has also inspired young enthusiastic multidisciplinary
graduates passionate about building just and participative society. On my journey towards
bringing chage I am accompanied by young people who having been educated in the premier institutes of the Country and
employed by fortune companies they realized that
even though the Country was progressing the benefits were not percolating to the deserving
section of the society. I was always concerned by the inequality and discrimination that
dalit (lower caste) and minorities and even within that children, women and youth faced
in East Champaran the place from where Gandhiji began its freedom movement is besotted by
poverty, discrimination, alcoholism and corruption at all levels. Men from the area migrate to
other States where they face further discrimination and even threat to life as one has seen the
violence towards Bihari's in Mumbai. The situation of health, education is abysmal. Even in access to Government schemes there
is a large scale corruption. so I decided to work in my own area with a focus on developing capacities of young people
by providing access to knowledge and information as they can be a catalyst for change we have brought to the fore the corruption
in Indira Awas Yojana, filed RTIs to know where funds meant for development projects have been spent. We have been working at various
levels to bring about change
in the area by arming
the community with knowledge and information and supporting them to take action.
One of the method that we have employed is through our Dalit Youth Support Program (DYSP) is
offering scholarship facilities for underpriviledge youth for higher education, this will help reduce
disparities amongst youth from upper, middle and lower class in the long run. In addition
to providing scholarship we built their life skills and organize workshops/seminars focussing
on improving communication and contacts between youth at various levels. Till date we have
supported.....youth through the program.
