This video will show you how to change your password, explain the difference between a password and a pass phrase,
and explain the password requirements for your Net ID. It will also provide helpful hints on choosing a safe and easy password.
To change your password, visit https://help.uidaho.edu/.
Log with your Net ID. If you are unable to login, see the Tutorials page for instructions on using your Security Profile.
Under the Account Utilities option on the left side of the screen, click “Change Passwords
Your accounts will be listed at the top of the screen. If you have more than one account,
for instance a student account and an employee account, both will be displayed.
Select which accounts you want to set a password for by checking or unchecking the box next to the user name.
You may set all your accounts to the same password.
All passwords must have at least one capital letter, one lowercase letter, and one number.
Passwords cannot contain three or more consecutive letters of your name, NetID, birthday, V Number, or student ID number.
You may choose to set a password of 8 to 14 characters or a passphrase,
which is 15 characters or more and lasts for 400 days instead of 90 days.
Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and may not contain any dictionary words longer than three letters and expire after 90 days.
To set a 400 day passphrase, your password must be at least 15 characters long. Pass phrases can contain dictionary words.
The password reset page displays the length of the current password above the “Set New Password” option.
If the current password cannot be set, the “Set New Password” option will be greyed out. A red box underneath it will explain needed changes.
Until your password is at least 15 characters, you will receive a warning if your password has dictionary words in it.
Employees with Banner access have additional requirements.
Type your password once into each box and then click Set New Password.
Your password is ready for use as soon as you see the screen confirming your password was set successfully.
Picking a passphrase is easier than you might think. You could choose song lyrics :
"Mary had a little lamb 9" "or Fight on with hearts true and bold 68"
A line from your favorite book or poem: "But I have promises to keep 68" or "Tender is the Night 45".
You could repeat a word you like or the name of a favorite character: "Narwhals narwhals2" or "Marty McFly in 2015"
Or just a phrase you can easily remember: Blue case for my phone or Loathsome as a toad 12
You could also just take your last 8 character password and type it twice
