Hi. This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village and I'm here to talk to you about
transferring venues if you're booking a show at a club. Now transferring a venue is going
to happen when the club backs out and all of a sudden you say, "well wait a minute.
I've got this show that I want to play anyway." Let's say you've put together a bill, you've
got all the bands lined up, the club bails out. Well, everyone's still counting on you
to put on the show. So you have to find a way to put on the same performance at a different
location. Or let's say you are touring and your next stop is in Delaware and the club
in Delaware cancels. And you say, "well I'm still going to be here tonight. Let's find
somewhere else to play." So what do you do to transfer a show? Well, you get in touch
with other venues in town or nearby that would be interested or capable of putting on the
same show. So go on line, see which clubs have the same size capacity, if anyone is
available that late notice, and contact them and say, "hey. I've got a bill put together."
If they're still wary a bit, then one thing you can do is offer them a guarantee where
you say, "alright well, I'll cover your overhead. We guarantee you that we're going to pay you
for all your overhead for the night and then we get to take on a certain percentage at
the door". And if the show is a success, not only are you going to break even, but you're
also going to make, hopefully make some money as well. Now in the event that you can't find
a club, you've got to check out a non-traditional venue. We're talking about a community center,
a church, even a loft party or something. Someplace where they'd be interested in the
bill you've put together. Because remember that the venue is only the vehicle for putting
on the show. But you could have the same contents in a different vehicle if necessary. It seems
like a real pain, but transferring a show if you can is really important because that
way you preserve your reputation as a band who doesn't stop the show from going on. Because
after all, the most important thing is that the show goes on.
