Today, I want to talk about My Japanese Studies and experiences
When I came to Japan for the first time
I could not speak Japanese at all
And was very worried
In Japanese market I heard words like Moshi-moshi, konbanba, Irassai-mase
No matter which shop did I go
In India, shop-keeper's calling words differ with shop
I was unable to differentiate whether the callers are humans or Robots
I noticed Japanese people around me started talking with word Sumimasen
And I thought name of all those people are Sumimasen
After facing many language troubles I came to know about free Japanese classes
From that day, I am attending the Thursday class at Hodogaya Kokusai centre
In classes I learnt to use the word san after everybody's name
But I wonder, why do they use word san after Mt. Fuji!!!
Bridge and Chopsticks, both sound Hashi in Japanese
Although the meaning is completely different
Teachers here taught me Japanese words and culture
Learnt Japanese is very helpful in my daily life and my work.
After I started to speak the LITTLE japanese I faced even harder problems
Landlady of my appartment asked me
How old is your Japanese teacher
Because both पुराना and उम्रदराज़ in English are old
I replied she is as पुरानी as you
I can still sometimes remember her face after my reply
This is not all
This one happened during a trip to hospital
At reception they asked: Are you kind(Shinsetsu)
I was confused about what to answer
Actually they asked, is it a diagnosis(shinsatsu)?
But that time I did not know the word Shinsatsu and misheard it as shinsetsu
I also learnt Japanese reading
Because I am a vegeterian I started with the characters of meat, egg etc
While buying eatables, I always check whether it is suitable for me or not
Once while buying Juice, I noticed the Kanji of meat on label
I was amazed
Why did they put meat in juice?
Later I came to know that the word fruit pulp looks like meat of fruit
I still have many Japanese words that I don't understand
I don't understand 山手 is Yamate or Yamanote
東京都 is higashi-kyoto or Tokyo-to
Why same sequence of character is read differently??
But I think, I don't need to go that far
Japanese is really difficult
But interesting
Moreover because Japanese people are kind
Speaking little Japanese can get you many Japanese friends
I like Japanese studies
Even after returning to India
I want to enjoy Japanese TV serials and Japanese TV channels
And make sure I don't forget Japanese language
Thank you
