Hey I’m Shira Lazar backstage at the Grammys brought to you by Turbo Tax with Wendy Raquel Robinson.
Hey. Hey, and what are you up to here at the Grammys?
Well, I’m just kind of hangin’ out. Actually I’m runnin into a lot of old friends. I just
saw Bobby Brown. I haven’t seen him since we worked together and promoting The Game actually.
Yeah, so let’s talk about The Game. Let’s talk about The Game.
The Game is on, it is on fire. BET
just recently picked it up and we broke records. How exciting?
Yes, it’s beyond exciting. We were the highest rated, scripted,
half hour television show in
cable television history. For our premiere we got 7.7, close to 8, yeah.
How is that possible? Exactly, you know we had been
on CW for the first three years and then we
were cancelled and BET picked it up, but the momentum from
the fans and from the media
it just grew and grew and grew into something that’s just amazing.
Yeah, you only hope for that, right?
Exactly, you only dream about that. It’s really interesting that that happened.
Yeah. I guess it’s just like the perfect audience and the right show.
It was a good fit. It’s kind of like Cinderella. You know, she put on that
shoe and was like Oh my God I’m the one.
Are you gonna be shooting now, again? Yeah, we just finished season four
so the episodes are airing now. We come on Tuesday nights,
ten o’clock eastern, seven o’clock pacific standard time.
Now do you have one person that guided you through your career to get to where you’re at today?
You know I want to say my mother was very instrumentalwonderful choices.
in a lot of things, just keepin’ me grounded
and I've just been really really blessed to
have had great representation and made wonderful choices.
You know what I mean? I want to say it’s a divine intervention too, just being spiritually there where I don’t
have to compromise anything or feel that I need to do anything that’s outside
of my realm to justify myself as an actress.
I’m a stage actress. I came from the theater first. Yeah
So I’ll always go back to that and that’s my first love.
So I want to give a shout out to my professors, a lot of my acting professors at Howard University.
Hey, big ups to you. So yeah,
they've been great mentors and just really inspirations
in my life and Debbie Allen was a huge mentor for me. Okay
Yes. It’s always good to have mentors. Oh yes, we need them, especially in this business. Yes,
I agree and thank you so much. Thanks for having me.
Check her out on BET’s The Game. Hey. It’s on right now on Tuesday.
Yes. So check it out. Thank you so much. Thank you for having me.
