#cuandotejerestupasión you become a living yarn
wearing your creations from head to toe -Yeximar Mejias
Hello, crocheteros! How are you?
I'm Helena, and this is Ahuyama Crochet,
the channel where we learn to crochet step by step.
Today we'll finally learn to do our mermaid tail blanket,
that I can't tell you how many times people asked for it,
even people who don't know how to crochet.
It's super easy and we just need to know
how to do the sc and the dc,
if you don't know how to do it yet,
I'll leave it for you in the pull-down "i", up here.
It's a blanket that's opened in the top part
to make it easier to wear,
and it's closed only in the bottom part to put your feet in.
We can also do it all closed like a sleeping bag,
I'll show you how to make it in the tutorial,
and it's a size for a girl, for the whole body,
and for me only in the legs.
I'll do it with this awesome yarn
that we find in "Media Luna", my yarn-boutique,
there's the kit of 6 balls, we need 6 balls-600 gr,
this is a yarn for needles from 8-10 mm,
and that's why I'll use this 10 mm bamboo needle,
that's also included in the kit.
There are other colors available to make the blanket,
here's this one that matches brown and fuchsia super cute,
and this one that mixes many colors like yellow, green,
orange, etcetera, I love this color,
it looks great for this blanket.
I won't entertain you more, let's learn to make our blanket.
AHUYAMA CROCHET WHEN CROCHETING IS YOUR PASSION
We'll start with a slipknot and here we'll do 15 chains.
These 15 chains will be the base for our blanket,
if you want a bigger or smaller base,
you just have to do more or less chains.
After these 15 chains, we'll do 3 extra-chains,
and then in the 4th chain from the hook we'll make 1dc.
Okay...and now in each available chain, we'll do 1dc.
Okay, we have the last chain left of this row,
and in that last chain we'll do 4dc, 4dc in the same hole.
4 DC IN THE LAST CHAIN
This is the 4th, and those 4dc will help us
form this curve to turn to the other side,
and here we'll work as in a mirror.
We'll look for the next chain, this one is already done,
we look for the next one...
...and we make there a double crochet.
One dc on each available chain,
as if it were a mirror of what we've just done.
Okay, here we're getting to the other side,
and here we find this last chain
with the 3 extra-chains we did at the start and 1dc,
this will count as 2dc,
so we need another 2dc to complete the corner,
we make 2dc in that last chain,
and we have the 4dc of that corner,
just like the other one.
And here to close the row
we look for the 3rd chain from the beginning,
and there we do one slip stitch.
And we have our first row, this is the base of our blanket.
For the 2nd row we'll start making the V-stitch,
We'll start with 3 chains,
and in the top loop of the first available stitch
that would be this one, here we'll make 1dc.
This would be the first V, even though it doesn't look like
but later we'll see that more clearly.
And here in this row we'll skip 1 top loop,
and in the next one we'll do 2dc.
One...and in the same hole, another double crochet.
Here we have the 2nd V on the 2nd row,
this one looks more like a V.
And we keep working like this,
we skip one top loop and in the next one we do 2dc.
SKIP 1 STITCH AND DO 2DC IN THE NEXT ONE
We skip 1 top loop and in the next one 2dc,
and so until finishing the row.
Here we've finished almost the complete row,
we can see the V more clearly I hope.
And here to close the 2nd row,
we look for the 3rd chain from the start, and we do 1 sl st.
Now we start with 3 chains, the 3rd row,
and we'll make 1dc directly in the hole of the 1st V.
This would be our first V from the 3rd row,
and now we'll just work on the Vs holes.
So in the next available hole, that would be this one,
we'll make 2dc, a new V, on top of the last row's V.
There it is, okay, and we continue
on each available V,
we'll do another V until getting to the corner,
here we'll just get to the corner,
we won't complete the whole row.
Here we've got to the corner by making Vs,
and here in the corner of the 3rd row,
and in all odd rows from now on,
we'll do one increase in this corner and in this one.
So that our blanket opens a little bit.
So to make 1inc in the Vs,
we'll just have to do in the next available V,
instead of 2dc we'll do 3.
That will be the increase.
1 INC= 3 DC IN THE HOLE
There we have our 3dc,
and this in the next row,
we'll see it as 2 available holes to work on,
that's why it's an inc because where we had 1, now we have 2.
So we'll continue working 1V on each available V
until the other corner, where we'll do again 1inc.
Here normal Vs until the other corner...
...and in this corner, before we close, we make again 1inc.
Three double crochet in the same hole.
ONE INCREASE IN THE OTHER CORNER
Okay, now we close as we know, we look for the 3rd chain,
and there we make 1 sl st.
That's the way we'll continue growing,
all even rows will be done without increase,
one V per each available V.
And all odd rows will have 1inc
on each corner as we've just seen.
So we'll do the next one, that would be an even row, row 4.
We start with 3 chains,
we make 1dc in the first available hole, the first V.
And now we start making one V on each available hole,
on each available V.
That's how we'll do these even rows, without any increase.
What we'll find in even rows is the increase of the last row,
those 2 holes together that we did in the last row,
that we'll work as normal holes.
So here we make 1V, 2dc,
and in the next hole another 2dc, another V.
There we've worked in the last row's inc,
but without making any inc in these even rows.
Here we've just worked the one in the other corner,
and we close as we already know with a sl st in the 3rd chain.
And those would be the even rows.
For odd rows we'll always repeat the instructions of row #3.
We start with 3 chains, we make 1 V on each available V,
except for the corners where we'll make 1inc.
So we'll continue growing like that,
alternating even and odd rows until getting to the row #11.
It would look like this,
our blanket will be opening a little bit until row #11.
And from row #11 we won't make any inc rows,
we'll make as if all rows were even,
without increases we'll grow until row #20.
So until row #11 we alternate with inc,
and from #11, without increases until #20.
So from row #20 our blanket will be opened in 2
as I showed you at the beginning.
If you want it to be a sleeping bag
you just need to continue crocheting in circles,
but here we'll close our row #20.
Here we're closing in the 3rd chain,
this is row #20, we're finishing it.
Here we'll do 1 chain to tighten the work,
because this thick yarn is easier to get loose.
We cut the yarn, we take the hook off...
...and we have closed row #20.
Now for row #21, we'll look for the central stitch
from the back part of the blanket.
And in that stitch, in it's top loop
we'll insert the hook, and we'll bring the thread back.
Here we'll do 3 chains,
and we'll do 1dc in the hole of that first V.
And this would be the 1st V from row #21,
which is where our blanket will open as I told you.
Now we'll continue making one V on each available V,
as we did in previous rows,
but the difference is that we won't close this row.
So here we continue doing two dc in each hole,
one V on each available V,
here we've finished the complete row.
And as I told you here we won't close, we'll leave it open,
here we make 3 chains after the last V, we twist our project,
and in that 1st available V,
in that first hole, we'll make 1dc.
And this is the first V from row #22.
And we continue making one V on each available V,
until completing the row but without closing it.
When we get to the other side we make our last V,
then 3 chains, and continue crocheting to this other side,
and so we go up as much as we want,
until having the measurements of our blanket.
Here we've done all of this, this is the base,
here is the opening from row 20-21, our blanket got opened,
we've continue going up, we're on row #43,
and we've spent 4 balls.
So here we'll stop for a moment, because we have 2 balls left
and we want to make the tail before finishing the yarn,
because we'll need 1 and a half balls for the tail,
because the tail is very thick.
So we'll start making the tail, and with the leftovers
we'll finish the blanket in the top part.
For the tail, we'll leave our blanket a side for a while,
this is our 5th ball in the kit from "Media Luna".
And we'll start with 15 chains our mermaid tail.
This will be the half of the tail,
and then we'll continue opening to the sides.
Now we'll make 3 extra-chains,
and in the 4th chain from the hook we'll make 1dc.
And continue making one dc on each chain
until finishing this 1st row,
here we have that row, out of only double crochets,
and here for the 2nd row we'll make 3 chains,
we twist our project,
and we'll make 1inc,
so that it starts taking a mermaid tail shape.
And in all the tail, we won't work in the top loops,
but in the stitch as it is,
in the stick that gives us the dc,
we'll work from behind those sticks.
Here we make 1dc from behind that stick,
and since we said we must do 1inc,
we'll make another behind that same stick,
another double crochet.
Here we have our first inc, it looks a little weird now
but later we'll see it more clearly.
So we'll pass to the next stick, here we won't make inc,
we'll just do 1dc on each available stick, from behind.
There, from behind, we yarn over and make one dc.
From behind...
...we yarn over and make 1dc,
and we're getting the peculiar shape of the mermaid tail.
Okay here we're almost at the end,
we just have those three chains left to work
that also count as a dc,
so we make our last dc from behind those chains
as if they were 1 stick,
and there we've finished the 2nd row.
And from behind we start noticing a small mountain,
for the 3rd row and all odd rows from now on
we'll make 3 chains,
and we won't do the inc at the beginning but in the end,
because all inc must go to the same side
to make the shape of the mermaid tail.
Here we'll also work from behind the sticks,
one dc behind each stick...
...here it is, from behind, dc,
...and before arriving to the last dc we'll make 1inc.
Two dc behind that stick...
there we have our inc, and the 3 chains from the end,
there in the back, we'll make a last dc.
And there we'd have our row #3.
Remember all inc will go to that side,
because this other side will be straight,
and here we'll have the curve of the mermaid tail.
So we'll continue growing,
repeating the instructions from rows #2 and #3,
so for example here we have the #4,
we repeat instructions from row #2, this is an even row,
we start with 3 chains, we twist our project
and in the 1st available stick we do the 1st inc.
Two dc from behind that stick,
that would be the inc of this even row.
And now on each available stick, one double crochet.
And for odd rows, as we did in row #3,
we crochet all the row and make the inc in the end.
And we repeat rows 2 and 3 until having 15 rows in total.
At the end of row #15 we can cut the thread,
and this will be the half of the mermaid tail.
I know it looks a little big, but this will shrink up here,
and it's exactly that difference:
here shrinked and down opened, what will create the curve
that gives the shape to the mermaid tail.
So we'll make another piece like this one,
exactly the same with the same instructions,
here it is, then we'll turn of the pieces,
and we'll connect them in the part where the chains are,
so here are the chains from this piece,
and here are the chains from this one,
we'll connect chains to chains.
Here we'll insert the hook in the first chain,
then in the one from behind, we bring the thread...
...and here we'll do 1 chain, and connect this with sc.
We'll look for the second available chain,
here the 2nd chain from the back part,
don't get it confused, the 2nd one, and there we make 1sc.
We'll take opportunity to camouflage these threads,
we'll save that work, and here we do our sc.
Here we look for the 3rd chain, the 3rd also from the behind,
we camouflage the threads, and make our single crochet.
We continue making sc until getting to the end,
this is the last sc...
...okay, there we make one last chain to tighten,
so that it won't get loosen.
And it's done! Our tail is finished!
We can connect it to the base of the blanket.
So we'll take some clothespin or whatever you want
to connect this part up here,
make it look the same size of the base.
And we bring our wool needle, also included in the kit,
and we'll start sewing the base of the blanket with the tail.
Okay, that's joined, and before sewing up the thread,
we can pull a little from the sides,
to shrink a little bit that part
and give a little bit more the shape of the mermaid's body.
And it's done, our tail is finished,
we can continue with the rest of the yarn we have,
I have almost a complete ball,
we can continue finishing our blanket upwards,
until reaching the measurements we want.
Well, crocheteros, I hope you liked this tutorial!
This blanket is for my niece "Mapis",
but I think I'll keep it for a while.
And well, I'll see you next week with a new tutorial,
I think I'll be uploading on Thursdays,
so wait for me next Thursday.
HUGS AND KISSES, AND HAVE A NICE CROCHET!
