Hey, everyone. It's me, Kathryn, and today
I'm bringing you my spoiler free review
for The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by
Becky Chambers. This is a character driven
sci-fi story which, I guess, has sort of
an episodic sort of narrative. It is
essentially a group of separate events
that are linked together to make this
story. And these events are all focused
around the members of a ship called the
Wayfarer and, honestly guys, I loved this
story so much. I'd heard some good
things about it but what sold it for me
what made me pick it up was people were
recommending it to people who enjoy the
Mass Effect video game series which I
absolutely adore. So that's what made me pick this up
and I'm glad I did because this - I felt
like this was written for people like me.
I feel like I've been saying this a lot
lately but I love characters. I love
reading about characters and their
interactions and seeing them build
relationships with each other and seeing
how they deal and help each other deal
with outside event and things like that
and this is basically all this is just
set in space, which is amazing. Honestly.
If you like action-packed, epic space
adventures then maybe this isn't for you.
Aside from the finale event, I guess you
could call it, the final event that
happens that leads you towards the end of
this book,
there's nothing really to this except
the characters and their relationships
with each other and outside people. There isn't
even really much in the way of character
growth. So if that's what you're into then
you're not going to find that in this. This
literally just a crew of a ship in space
that... are forced to talk to each
other, to build some form of relationship
with each other. That is what this is and
that's what I love. I loved this so much.
It was right up my street.
The only thing that let this down was
something that happened towards the end
to a certain character. I'm not going to
say what because, obviously, that is a spoiler but
it just didn't sit well with me what
happened. Regardless of what happens
afterwards and how that character fairs
afterwards, just that one event just didn't...
that one thing that happened just
didn't sit well with me and that's what
kept it from being a complete five-star...
book. But I'm- I'll talk more about that in my
spoilery discussiony thing that I'm gonna
do afterwards about this but apart from
that I really enjoyed this, guy's. If you love
character driven stories then maybe you
should pick this up and give it a go.
So that is it for this spoiler free review, guys.
Thank you so much for watching. Let me know in the
comments below if you've read it and
what your thoughts are on this and I
will hopefully see you in another video.
Bye^^
