REZA: What I always say to people is that there is no proof for the
existence or the non-existence of God. Faith is a choice. But it's not an irrational choice.
That it's actually quite rational and reasonable when confronted with reality and the world and
life itself. To believe that there is a transcendence. That there is something beyond. I talk
about it very simply as the three questions. Right? Number one, do you believe that there is
something beyond the material world? That there is something beyond the material realm?
Or do you believe that this is it? If you believe this is it, good for you. You're an atheist. I have
no problem with that. OPRAH: That was your dad. REZA: Go on. Go on your
way. OPRAH: That was your father. REZA: That's right. That's my dad. If you believe that
there's something else, I have a second question for you. Do you want to experience that
thing? Do you want to commune with it? Do you want to feel it? If not, great. You're an
agnostic. Go about your business. You're fine. If yes, then that leads me to the third
question. Which is, how? How? Do you want to experience it through religion? Do you
want to experience it through human relationships? Do you want to experience it through the
experience of nature and awe? You know, through the experience of climbing a mountain or
-- or swimming in an ocean. That the how is a personal choice that is really up to each
individual. But it's all about deciding whether you want to or not. It's not about needing proof.
There is no proof in the sense of what we would refer to as scientific proof. It's just a
decision.
