hey guys today we're talking about what to wear when mountain biking and mountain
bike clothing
This video is specifically talking about performance oriented
uh... clothing what you should be wearing when you're
most worried about performance
uh... if you're looking for something more casual like you know baggy mountain
bike clothing
then please click on this video right here
that'll give you kind of a really good rundown of what to wear and what you
want to look for when ever your... whenever you're wearing uh... or
whenever you're buying sorry
baggy mountain bike clothing
okay so the first thing i want to say is you should always be wearing a helmet no
matter what kind of clothing you're wearing period
so anytime you get on the bike
go ahead and put a helmet on it could possibly save your life and it is
you know the best tip that I've got is always wear a helmet these tips are
intended to make you more comfortable while you're on the bike everyone's preference
is going to be a little bit different so whatever your preference is you know
go with your gut instinct on that if you feel more comfortable in baggy
mountain bike clothing then wear that
if you're looking for the performance oriented skin-tight stuff
then you're gonna want this okay so all of that super tight cycling gear that is
all designed around making you perform and function better as a cyclist
so it actually all does have a purpose there is a reason that you wear that
skin-tight stuff
having your clothing right against the skin
makes it perform better in a couple of different ways number one it helps to
transfer moisture away from your body because the fabric is right on your
skin
number two it actually makes you more aerodynamic because you don't have
loose billowy clothing flowing around behind you getting caught up in the wind
and then number three is that having all that skin-tight gear on it keeps you know
loose articles of clothing from getting caught on a low-lying branch or
a tree limb or some rocks or whatever it might be one thing to note is that a
lot of people label this as spandex in fact i even did that myself in one of my
earlier videos
but in the modern era pretty much no cycling clothing is actually made of
spandex
instead it's made out of things like lycra or nylon polyester uh...
elastics
and really
high-performance hybrid materials
so what you're looking for in a set of high-performance cycling shorts or bibs
is number one you need to make a distinction whether you want a bib or
a pair of shorts bibs are going to have the straps and the kinda overall
looking dudes that go over your shoulders bibs are actually going to
help you to keep a better position on the bike and also to keep your core more
in line
uh... the next thing you need to look for is a really good high-quality chamois
you're also going to want a very breathable and moisture wicking
material that the whole thing is made out of
and then here on the legs you'll want some good
very comfortable elastic bands or grippers that are going to keep the pants
in place on your legs one more thing that you do need to look for on a set of
cycling shorts is a good stitching so stitching is actually one of the most
important p parts of that um... especially around the chamois if you have
a set of cycling shorts or bibs that have poor stitching
it's most likely going to cause chafing and blisters and some other
unsightly things that are not very fun to experience afterwards
okay so for the jersey for a high-performance cycling jersey most
likely its going to be matching the pair of shorts or the bib that you got... but
a couple of things you do always wanna make sure of is it number one it is made
of that same moisture wicking high-performance material
uh... the second thing is that you do typically you're typically going to
want a full-length or a three-quarter length zipper on the front
and the reason for this is especially during the hot summer you're gonna be
able to open this up and get a little bit of improving airflow to your upper body
so
look for those couple of things whenever you are making a purchase of a
high-performance cycling jersey
remember what you wear when riding is completely up to you if you feel more
comfortable in baggy clothing
then by all means go do that
i've also got this video again that shows you kinda what you want to look
for whatever you do purchase baggy clothing
so if you want to check that out id you know go ahead and take a look
so i hope this helps you to understand some of the benefits of that tight
cycling gear some of the performance benefits and also just kinda what to look for
whenever you're purchasing it
