Hi, my name's Lee Perkins. I'm a physical therapist and founder of HandsOnRemedy.com.
Today I'm going to talk about Metatarsophalangeal Joint Sprains, commonly know as Turf Toe,
and why you should consider physical therapy as your first option in the healing process.
Turf Toe occurs when the joint at the base of your big toe gets sprained. This sprain
is caused by stress to the ligaments of the joint producing inflammation and stiffness.
This can result from repetitive running or sprinting on hard surfaces, poor supportive
footwear or an impact injury. When these ligaments inflame it can make it very difficult to bend
and straighten your big toe. Turf Toe is also very painful making activities on your feet
challenging during the day....like walking, going up and down stairs and playing your
favorite sport. With early Physical Therapy treatment, you
can maximize your function quickly and cost effectively. On the first visit, your Physical
Therapist will perform differential diagnostic testing to determine your exact condition.
You should then expect a hands-on treatment incorporating specialized techniques to help
get the results you need. Your therapist will also provide a home exercise program specific
to your injury and the training to perform those exercises correctly. Our goal as therapists
is the same as yours; heal quickly and heal permanently. The information you see on our
website and this video should NOT be used to determine your own condition. You should
seek medical advice from a qualified professional first. Find your Physical Therapist now at
HandsOnRemedy.com, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
