General Guide for setting up and operating the Canon R400 HD Camcorder.
Step 1: Unpack the camcorder, power cables or batteries and tripod. Open the tripod legs
and loosen all fasteners. Raise the legs to the desired height.
Step 2: Attach the camera to the tripod. The two color dots should line up. Secure the
camera with the two levers. The grey lever secures the camera. The smaller gold lever
secures the grey lever.
Step 3: Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet or use battery power.
Step 4: Open the LCD view screen to turn the camcorder on. If the camcorder has gone into
power save mode, press the On/Off button on the left side of the camcorder to turn it
back on, remember to open the lens cover before filming.
Step 5: Make sure the SD card is secure and that the SD card door is closed. Use the WT
lever to zoom in on or zoom out of your target location.
Step 6: Attach the microphone receiver to the camera using the MIC jack. Turn on both
the mic and receiver. When they both have solid blue lights they are ready to record.
Secure the microphone to your shirt. It should be kept six inches from your mouth.
Step 7: Press the Start/Stop button at the back of the camcorder to record. The LCD screen
will show a red dot in the middle of the screen to indicate that you are recording.
Step 8: Press the Start/Stop button at the back of the camera to stop recording. Press
the play button on the left side of the camera to review your recording.
Step 9: At the event's end, unplug the camcorder, release from the tripod, first using the gold
lever, and then the gray lever, break down the tripod, and return all parts to the carry
cases.
Step 10: To transfer recordings, connect the camcorder to a computer via the USB port.
Plug in the power adapter, turn on the camera, and press the play button on the left side
of the camcorder.
Step 11: Copy your files directly to your computer. In Windows they can be viewed using
VLC media player. On a Macintosh, import your files using iPhoto.
