My name is Richard O’Hare and I am a graduate of York St John University and I studied Film
and Television Production. I graduated just in 2010 so the year just past.
The facilities here at York St John are really good for Film and TV because you have got
all the different sections of the film industry that we use. So you have got the editing suits,
you’ve got there is TV studios, you have got all the camera equipment, the gibs and
the tracks. The teaching staff a really good, they are
really helpful, really friendly like really engaging, I mean you come to a University
where you are studying film and you have got to chat about films, everyone likes chatting
about films, it’s really good and a lot of them have worked in the industry themselves
so the bring that kind of experience to their teachings.
Courses are very practical we have found that if it is not half and half it is more practical
than it is theoretical which is good because you need that when you are in the really world
you don’t write an essay about why you are using a camera but obviously you need to know
the ins and outs so you do get that good balance of the practical and the theory.
The course is very aimed at getting you out there into the industry and making you susceptible
to employers so I mean in fact there is a module that I did which was called working
in the industry. If you love films this is a good place to
meet people who love films if you love making films the people you meet here love to make
films as well so you are in the best kind of hive of environment to be with the same
like-minded people.
