A spiritual journey to bring people together.
This is why Te Whanau o Ruataupare is travelling to Rarotonga
for the opening of Pa Ariki's new palace,
but this isn't the first opening they have celebrated together
as Roihana Nuri reports.
It's a special journey for Te Whanau o Ruataupare
of Tokomaru Bay, East Coast.
They will travel to Rarotonga.
Pa Ariki sent an invitation to Ngati Porou to attend the opening
of a palace in Rarotonga.
We are going to connect with our siblings there,
and when we will make arrangements for the opening of this building.
On Thursday, the new palace of Pa Marie Ariki 'Pa Maioro'
in Natangia, Rarotonga, will be opened.
To gain an invitation from Pa Marie Ariki
is an honour for us of Tokomaru.
In 1934, Rarotonga Ariki attended the opening
of the meeting house Te Hono ki Rarotonga in Tokomaru.
Pa Ariki and others returned to Tokomaru in 2009.
Now we will attend the opening in Rarotonga
to maintain that connection.
A group of 74 will made the trip.
Elders, adults, children, grandchildren and babies
will be going, as far as I know.
Amongst the travelling party,
there are 25 of us members of the haka group Te Hokowhitu a Tu.
Te Whanau o Ruataupare will return home next week.
