Wayne Cater is a Lucerne grower close to Tamworth on the Peel River. He was one of the successful
tenderers in Round 1 of the Sustaining the Basin Farm Modernisation Project, which has
been operating in Northern NSW since late last year. Wayne Carter's project is a lateral
move, which fits in well with the configuration of his farm and will reduce the amount of
time he spends moving irrigation pipes. We had hand shift pipes down here, side roll
irrigators. What will this new machine do for you then?
Time wise it will save us huge hours on our labour costs down here, and our water efficiency.
Water efficiency is the most important thing, it will do wonders for us. And what has this
project actually meant to you then? Well I suppose it wouldn't been available to us as
far as our own contribution, we couldn't afford to put it down here, so this system has come
up and made it very available and quite economical to put in.
